Nowadays, it is common to have a television at home. TV companies offer a plenty of different channels. I think that parents with children under 18 years old should be careful about what they watch on TV. Children receive negative messages and images. Parents should control what they watch because their behavior is affected and family time is lost.

First, some events can change their behavior. Crimes, fights and the usage of bad vocabulary by the characters are some examples. Children absorb all what they see on TV. They do not know the difference between good or bad. For instance, my daughter was watching one of her favorite cartoons the other day. By the end of the day, she was using coarse language with her sister. I asked her where she heard those words and she said that one of the characters said them to his best friend.

Another important point is that family time is lost while children watch TV. Nowadays, families do not have enough time to do things together. It is easier to turn on the TV instead of playing or talking with their children. Some children watch television without the supervision of their parents because most of the time they are working or just doing things that they consider more important. While this happen children are absorbing all what programs with good or bad messages are on TV. When I was a little girl, my dad used to take me out and ride the bicycle. Yesterday, I asked my daughter to do the same thing and she refused to do it because she was watching one of her favorite programs.

Television is harmful for our children. As parents, we should supervise what they watch on TV. We should spend more time with them so their behavior and family time is not affected.
