The Nature of Man
In Charles Darwins theory of evolution, he contested that man originated from the ape. His theory however, appears to be unsupported because for thousands of years these apes have been there, but none of them have developed into human beings nor did Darwin ever found the missing link. Only one thing is for sure, early man emanated from something far greater than science can explain. It is nature doing its wonders. Or I should say, it is God performing one of his greatest miracles. Hence, man can never be a mistake or created without a purpose. It is out of goodness that goodness shall come out. Man is in his true and crude nature – good.

However, man is not a separate entity from his surroundings. He lives and interacts with everything and everyone around him. In one way or another, he is shaped by his family, culture and society. He becomes one of and with them. Nevertheless, he is given the freedom and power to choose the things that he believes will be beneficial to him and throw away those that will harm him. It is now my task as counselor to assist specifically my clients to learn how to choose for themselves. It is my duty to help them realize the things that will be beneficial for them and change or disregard those that will not be. For in the end, their true nature springs up – the true nature toward goodness. I think that good here does not mean to be an adjective. It does not serve to describe man rather it is a noun. “Good” is a function. Something that is good works. It fulfills the purpose for which it was created. The true nature of man is good because it has a purpose. The moment man ceases to be good is the time he also ends his purpose.

I have faith in what I do as a counselor. I believe and I hope that I make a difference to the lives of my clients even how little it is. I think that by reflecting on my views about the true nature of man, I have become more optimistic in performing my roles as a guidance counselor. I now recognize the important of what I do and this gives me more determination and confidence. Hopefully, I will be able to direct more lives into their true nature.
