Cell Phones In School
Cell Phones in School
Some believe cell phones have a negative impact on a students education. I strongly disagree with that statement. There are so many reasons why it is great to have a cellular phone in school such as emergencies, internet, and many more. Schools should not have the right to prohibit cell phones or other electronic devices for many reasons as well, one being the fact that it is your personal property.

For example, a situation may arise in which a student or friend of a student is in danger at school after class hours and needs to contact their parents or the authorities within a minute or so. If this is in a school where cell phones are prohibited, the student will not be able to contact their parents. Any number of situations could be proven to have better endings if the students in them had cell phones. Cell phones shouldnt be seen as a luxury, rather as a necessity. “Many parents are adamant about having their children of all ages tote phones with them in case of an emergency” (Donaldson-Evans, p1).

In contrast, many think “mobile devices are often used for sneaky or social reasons,” (Donaldson-Evans, p1) rather than curricular purposes. In addition to that, schools are also worried about photos taken in the locker rooms and bathrooms, disruptive calls, and other behavior. They also worry about rumors starting over text messages. Some of these things do happen. There are disruptive calls, naked photos, and other things like cheating on tests.

In the experts opinion, they think that although some may use their cell phones for sneaky or bad things, which are only a very small portion of the actual amount of students who bring cellular phones to school. Of course, however, they will be used for socializing, but arent we all in the same school together for a reason?
