InvestmentTUTORIAL 8: SUMMARY & REFLECTIONSIn this week tutorial, students were asked to discuss three case studies that involved usage of IS system in three organisations. The first case study is about the IS system implemented in a healthcare organisation which consists of many medical officers to share knowledge and cases of their patients in one IS system. The usage of IS in this system helps them to get reference to different medical conditions from other physicians under the same system even they are miles away from one another. Besides, this system helps them to hold virtual meetings without the need to gather physically at one place, thus reduce time consumption and improve their efficiency. This system also makes retrieval of information faster as compared to the conventional method which data is stored in a book and need to find reference manually. However, the main challenge of having this IS system is to keep the content of updated while maintaining the quality of knowledge provided in the system to be easily understood by other users. Furthermore, although all users have access to the same data in the system, not all physicians are able to conceive the information similarly due to existence of tacit knowledge owned by the physicians themselves.

Reflecting upon my own experience while doing part time job, the manager will usually give me more elaboration on how to execute a similar task as compared to more experienced employee. This is because the experienced employee has better tacit knowledge about the operation of the business but as for a newbie like me, I will need more explanation to do the job although we were presented with the same explicit knowledge. In the above case, junior physicians might need to refer to their senior colleagues to carry out certain treatments due to lack of tacit knowledge while senior physicians might find the information provided in the IS system is sufficient as reference.

For the second case, we discussed about the system used by a supplier of metal components for car seats. As global manufacturing companies with offices and factories are scattered around the world, the main challenge they face is to synchronise its production due to different time zones and locations from each manufacturing sites. Therefore, the use of computerised IS system is used to monitor the production process in all its production sites to meet the firm’s objectives. This company also uses management information system (MIS) in which the managers can easily troubleshoot problems as soon as they arise and make database entries to all locations at a time. The MIS system can also detect defective products from suppliers during the assembly process and settle the flaws as quick as possible, maintaining efficiency in the production. This IT based system helps to improve efficiency as the managers could monitor and troubleshoot problems across all its factories by assessing the

s to each factories’ needs as well as their own needs, improving in the process and ensuring that quality is ensured. It also makes it possible to have a better understanding of the issues as well as its solution which can be adapted to improve the process of manufacturing and make it more cost effective as compared to other manufacturing systems. However, the company does not use MIS for the purposes of safety or as a substitute for other methods for making a product. However, as more companies are able to afford such a solution for their systems, it can be adopted by the customer which means that no more accidents. It also ensures that a system is more efficient with improved efficiency and more efficient process. Although it may be less expensive than other solutions, these solutions still can be used for a variety of reasons. Some of them are the most difficult to integrate. Other solutions are less cost effective, which can lead to further issues that ultimately lead to failure.

2.4.3 Safety Concerns In the above mentioned case, safety concerns, such as the possibility of human error or the risk to the internal environment of the vehicle and parts or to the customers who use the vehicles or work with the production, should be taken into account. With the addition of software to the system, the safety considerations become clear. Although it is quite possible for a customer to get stuck for some time in the misconstrued data, in case of a problem, if the customer is not able to complete the process well within the time frame envisaged by the system, then it is very important for him to check to see that the issue is in question, and then to attempt to repair the problem. This can be done easily by simply typing    and not getting stuck or getting out of the system. In addition, for safety reasons, it is important to understand that it is necessary to check system status at all times, including if it is stopped before using the system, to verify it is still working properly. Moreover, it would be very much preferred to use automated systems which will be easy to follow with one command when the situation arises. Furthermore, using automated systems means ensuring that the system is up to date. In this case, one could have a system system that would be updated very often if the problem were to arise and to make the needed changes before running the system again. As in the abovementioned case, even if the problem is not fatal, the system will still be up to date by the time the end results show it to be not working properly, which is quite valuable as it can enable the company to make changes to the systems, as long as there is consensus on the correct thing for the particular problem. This has advantages as it means that the company can reduce the risk by only having to restart the system and replacing it later, ensuring that the correct conditions are found. The same is true also for the safety of the components which are supplied to the vehicle. Therefore, if the problem occurs in an unknown area, it can be quickly treated as an accident which cannot be prevented by manual safety systems, because it cannot be eliminated without manual safety systems. However, safety is also affected indirectly because of the other features which are also present in the system. A system is also needed where a problem occurs with an automatic component. The main feature that is needed is if the components are to operate at different speed modes for certain conditions due to the different operating conditions of different parts, or how certain parts are performing at their correct speed. The solution in an e.g. case might be to use the same system as for the vehicle, but for the parts as soon as they should be connected to the motorway or the road to be repaired correctly for safety. When the system is working properly, it needs several steps. Step 1 is when the safety of the system should be monitored. Step 2 is when the system is running smoothly and continuously, especially if it is restarted. Step 3 is when safety precautions are taken in a particular circumstance
