Carl Robins and ABC Inc.
Carl Robbins is the new campus recruiter for ABC, Inc. After being on the job for six months Carl recruited several new hires. Carl Robbins was given a big assignment by the Operations Supervisor, Monica Carrolls to schedule a new hire orientation on June 15; with intentions to have them all working by July. Carl gave Monica his word that everything would be taken care of in time. At the time Carl did not realize everything that was involved to proceed and get the job completed. It is obvious that Carl Robbins was not properly trained on how to proceed in the endeavor, thus he encountered some problems that prevented him from doing a good job. He panicked, and was trying to figure out what he was going to do about this, but instead of panicking he should have started thinking of ways to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. One of the things he could have done was to have called Monica right away to let her know of his dilemma. He should have asked for her help to get back on track so that he could get the assignment completed in a timely fashion.

Monica Carrolls should have given Carl Robbins some specific guidelines to follow since he had only been working for ABC Inc. for six months; and this was his first time setting up a training session. Precautions should have been taken to ensure that the process would have worked more smoothly and that these situations do not occur in the future. Carl Robbins should have been provided training in time management, communication and organization.

There were some problems which prohibited Carl Robbins from completing the assignment that Monica Carrolls had given to him. Some of the trainees did not have applications completed on their transcript on file. None of them had been sent to the clinic for drug screening. Carl only had three orientation manuals and several pages were missing from those three manuals. Joe from technology was in the training room setting up computer terminals. Carl also found out that Joe had the training room booked for all of June, which was a direct conflict with the date the orientation should have taken place. It was obvious that Carl Robbins procrastinated until after he returned to work after the Memorial Day holiday, and was not proactive on getting the job assignment completed. He should not have waited until the last minute to start working on this assignment. That is the reason for his frustration, and Monica Carrolls did not follow through with Carl Robbins to inquire if he understood the assignment or even if he needed assistance or further information on how to get the assignment finished. Carl could have gone to Monica Carrolls himself and asked questions or even asked a coworker in the department for assistance and guidance. There are some other things that Carl could have done assist him to get this task done in a timely manner. They are as follows: He could have asked for a month-long extension, he could have set up a Web page, but that would require a lot of time. Carl could have asked individuals to share their manuals, but each new hire really needed to have their own Manual. These alternatives could have helped Carl Robbins to quickly turn this negative situation into a positive situation.

There should have been an effective training schedule and orientation program set up for the new hires to work for Monica
