Debat over Capital PunishmentEssay title: Debat over Capital PunishmentThe debate over the merits of capital punishment hasendured for years, and continues to be an extremelyhot topic and complicated issue. People who support capitalpunishment feel that society must be protected and kept safe from the monstrous barbaric acts of these. At the same time, we must insure that innocent people are never convicted or sentenced to death for a crime that they did not commit.

I feel that the use of capital punishment as a formof deterrence does not work, because there are no fewer murdersin countries or states that do have it, then those that do not. In my opinion, in order for capital punishment to work as deterrence, certain events must be present in the criminals mind prior to committing the offense. The criminal must be aware that others have been punished in

the past for the affiance that he or she is planning, andthat what happened to another individual who committed thisaffiance, can also happen to him/her.This is not the case in most European countries. In America, there are hundreds of thousand people in prison and 80% of them are of color. The judicial system is not set up fairly on the front end so it would be very difficult for any other part of the system to work properly.

It has been proven time and time again that if you have money you are most likely to not be punished for the crime. African American men are more likely to be put to death than a Caucasian merely because their life is not valued as the same as a Caucasian man.

We must be careful. We must be very careful to never, evenwhen suspicion may cause considerable doubt, send aninnocent person to be executed. It could have happened toa black man, it could have happened to white man.It probably has even occurred numerous times in the historyof the earth. With proper police investigations, andwhere the evidence shows that the individual is a threat tothe peace of society as long as he or she is alive, capitalpunishment is still not the answer. Capital punishment sends the message that killing is acceptable for one but not for another.Capital punishment is in itself a form of vengeance on the killerAfter the attack on the Twin Towers, America was quick to kill. It was if they felt that by killing others would make up for they horrible act upon us. Two wrongs will never make a right. Capital punishment is a barbaric act in a so called civilized country and it does not work.

But individuals who commit any types of crime ranging fromauto theft to First Degree Murder, never take into accountthe consequences of their actions. Deterrence to crime, isrooted in the individuals themselves. Every human has apersonal set of conduct such as how much they will and willnot tolerate and how far they will and will not go. Thispersonal set of conduct can be made or be broken byfriends, family, home, life, etc. An individual who isnever taught some sort of restraint as a child, willprobably never understand any limit as to what they can do,until they have learned it themselves. Therefore, capitalpunishment will never truly work as a deterrent, because ofhuman nature to ignore practiced advice and to self learn.There

Why are you so aggressive when you talk about punishment? Well the only thing that should be done is not to stop the crimes and to stop them within the timeframes. Instead of that, then this would be the time to teach individuals about the principles of human cooperation in a non-coercive way.

To respond to people who don’t like what I’m talking about…it’s so important to keep in mind that, with no exception, the most aggressive people don’t want to do anything about the consequences if they are caught abusing their powers.

One person is not a predator when it comes to the use of force, the rest of it will be done by others, in the name of doing their duty. And many others will be in a position to choose to use violence against those with rights as they see fit by making this choice as the most important one.

If you understand my point then you should really feel it…and if you don’t then that is a very unfortunate situation.

But I wouldn’t say no to that! The most effective deterrent is not just a deterrent that will stop them from abusing it but also a deterrent that won’t stop others abusing it.

[quote=Freedman4pm]

>The truth is that a simple humanist understanding of what’s in your face and your own responsibility is something not to be avoided. We will have to overcome the idea that there’s no way to avoid something; it’s just a way of finding something to be happy, something we can do without and not fear, because the situation doesn’t always have any place in our lives and we just won’t be doing it because of circumstances of other people. So if we could help those who suffer from these conditions then we would be helping other people too, it would definitely be the most rewarding thing we can accomplish that we could achieve.
