Capital Punishment Is the Death Penalty
Capital punishment is the death penalty. Capital punishment is the execution of someone by judicial process as a punishment for a capital offence; it is the severest type of punishment as nothing can be more painful, agonising or brutal to an individual than being deprived of his life and existence. However, the capital punishment is not a “legalized killing” but a negative reward for unlawful and immoral activity. Around sixty per cent of the world treats capital punishment as the highest and cruellest punishment, such as: the Republic of China, the United-States, India, Singapore and Indonesia, displaying that it is still very widely used. In contrast, seventy-four countries had completely abolished the death penalty. Without the rejection of capital punishment, countries are not allowed to join the European Union. The opposing division demonstrates the existence of for and against arguments for capital punishment.

To the victims and their families, capital punishment maybe considered as the most decent way of retribution and a way of getting revenge mentally. The Old Testament Law, in the book of Deuteronomy, an idea of revenge is mentioned: “show no pity: life for life, eye for eye.” which suggests that the criminal should receive a fair and reasonable punishment that equals to the crime committed. Though the life of the victim cannot be repaid, retribution is the most consolable way to comfort the losing of their beloved.

Who would actually believe that this idea of punishment is contradicted in the New Testament? When an adulterous woman was brought to Jesus, the prince of peace, to be stoned, he said: “let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her”. All human are sinners, we have no rights to pass judgments as we have all made mistakes ourselves; god should be the only one judging a human beings life, according to some Christians believes.
