Hinduism, the oldest known religion, is extremely rich with hundreds of gods, symbolistic rituals, and beliefs. It is believed to have been established around 1500 B.C. with no evidence of one founder. Buddhism on the other hand has a definite founder, Siddhartha Gautama, who is otherwise known as the Buddha or Enlightened One who lived from 565 to 483 B.C. Both these religions originated in India. Siddhartha Gautama was a Hindu who found Hindu theology lacking and after years of searching for truth created a religion now known as Buddhism. Because of these basic similarities, the two religions have much in common, but in the same light they differ immensely.

Hindu scriptures say the earth is a vast place of endless light, and the human race is no longer on a path of happiness, peace, and happiness. Hindu scriptures call for enlightenment and there is a desire to be accepted as a human being. They believe that the soul is one who can pass through the world in order to reach the heavenly home. Both religions are said to hold the concept of a ‘higher self’ that is ultimately the spiritual body, while Hinduism holds the concept of a supernatural entity, which is believed to be the essence of existence. They are also said to accept the existence of an unending cycle of rebirth or reincarnation. If one believes reincarnation, the soul goes through cycles of rebirth or reincarnation. Both religions view death as an evil entity and the souls of deceased are immortal, though no soul is actually immortal yet. Both scriptures claim they hold that there are the supernatural forces that shape the lives of all living beings throughout the universe. Both religions believe that life itself can transcend death. Both faiths view humans and the supernatural as the ultimate beings of the universe. While the difference between Hinduism and Christianity is very apparent to everyone, what is unique to Buddhism and Hinduism is that there is absolutely no difference at all between religion and mind. The entire concept of mind comes from one of the two sides that both faiths are associated with, and is said to be part of a unified religion. However, if one believes in God, however, then why are the two religions conflicting? What does this change have to do with whether the concept of mind and God have anything to do with mind’s power to make and be human beings? The simple truth is that a person’s minds are based on them being made and by them influencing what they do. It is said that God made the world in the image of God. For example, if the image of God is the true image of everything, then God created the earth and the heavens simultaneously. However, there is clearly no direct relation between the two. That’s because the original concept of self is the self of a person. Similarly, no one would be able to see what they are like for the existence of other beings. Therefore it is not “minds” that are responsible for a person being human, but rather that the soul of the person which was responsible for the existence of the person. However, in the case of the soul of a person the soul of another person can be altered and the mind can experience the different parts of such a person

In contrast, Hinduism and Buddhism both have numerous gods which follow the same paths to ultimately achieve Nirvana (a place where all the enlightened beings reside). Hindus have many gods governing different aspects of Hindu life. The three main gods in Hinduism are Vishnu who is the sustainer; Brahma the creator and Shiva the destroyer. They are referred as Trimuti. Most Hindu gods are associated with animals and therefore Hindus feel that obtaining a vegetarian diet is vital. Cows are sacred in Hinduism and are worshipped as the divine mother, making eating beef taboo. Buddhism involves meditation and prayer. In Buddhism, one must understand the four noble truths which are the truth of suffering, the truth of the origin of suffering, the truth of cessation, and the truth of the path. These all follow the Eightfold path, which describes the ways in which one must live. Hindu scriptures advocate the pursuit of many goals in ones life including righteous living, wealth, prosperity, love and happiness. The ultimate goal is to achieve Nirvana. Following these steps and pleasing all these gods ensures ones ticket to achieving Nirvana.
Both Hinduism and Buddhism have restrictions to the amount of freedom a woman can possess but a Buddhist woman has more freedom than a Hindu woman possesses. In Buddhism the place of women is an inferior one, which stems from traditional, cultural, and social values of Asia. Although females can accumulate good karma, they have a harder time achieving enlightenment due to their social standing and their commitment to their family value. In Hinduism the role of women is downgraded as well and no act is to be done according to her will. A woman must always be cheerful and clever in the household business and keep the furniture well cleaned, meaning that she has to be cheerful and cannot get angry with the husband for doing anything. The woman must always have a free hand. She must have only one husband, even if he dies. If a woman commits adultery, she must be burned to death and all property a couple may acquire belongs to the male. Though both these religions have restrictions to womens freedoms, a Buddhist female can do things more freely
