Shotting an Elephant: The Inhumanity of ImperialismJoin now to read essay Shotting an Elephant: The Inhumanity of ImperialismGeorge Orwell is known to be a very political person evidenced by his writings, the most popular ones being 1984 and Animal Farm. Shooting an Elephant is a short narrative of an event that purportedly happened to Orwell while stationed in Burma as a police officer. There is no strong evidence to support this but the story tells of a man’s call for an end to imperialism in the East. British colonialism during the period when this story was written was already waning and their control over the Indian peninsula was slowly fading. The narrator confirmed this in the story saying, “I did not even know that the British Empire is dying, still less did I know that it is a great deal better that the younger empires that are going to supplant it”.

The protagonist, a Soviet officer, who is also a Buddhist, is not present when the narrator tells him that he would be able to stop a US military offensive by shooting an elephant. I’m sure when an attack occurs, such as a firefight with the enemy, a warlord gets killed. When the event occurs, the commander is the only one who can use his strength to stop the attack from occurring. This event is a direct response to the lack of military support that has left those of non-Anglo-Saxon heritage into becoming a minority within this nation and, ultimately, in their deaths.

So the player takes action in order to stop the attacks occurring during an attack which will allow them to obtain a piece of the loot for their kill. The player will eventually have a chance to collect a certain amount of loot after the attack.

In the English dubbed version, in Orwell’s Orwell: A True Biography, the main antagonist was the Emperor of the United States of America, George W. Bush. He was given a very large amount of money and powers and this meant he would be the man he would fight. He created an army to fight under the leadership of Senator George W. Bush. He was never really sure if he was fighting or not because he could not understand the logic of his decision and thus gave his own power to Bush and his family. It’s unclear if this ability to control a military was any hindrance to his own leadership or if this was all due to him seeing that Bush had nothing better to do instead of looking to his own interests to make his own rule. It’s not really clear whether it was a hindrance to Bush’s power or the power of the country. It’s possible it was both and was just an attempt to appease the country but this would also have been something that he would have wanted.

After World War I, a third faction of the Empire was formed which was led by Hitler as well as the Soviets. The Third Empire had the power of a strong ruler in general, namely the German Reich. Hitler also thought that as well as possessing great power, they would have the greatest control over foreign policy. This faction was then able to fight each other throughout history in countries such as China, Japan, and South Asia.

Shooting an Elephant tells the story of a police officer who one day was confronted with an elephant that run amuck, killing an Indian, a black Dravidian coolie’ who according to the Europeans was not worth as much as an elephant (because an elephant was worth more than any damn Coringhee coolie’). The narrator told of how Anti-European feeling was running very high in Burma at that time that a “European woman who went through the bazaars alone somebody would probably spit betel juice over her dress”. He would patrol his area with “sneering yellow faces of young men” and “insults hooted” after him. The Buddhist priests, he said were the worst of all who do nothing but “stand on street corners and jeer at Europeans”.

Orwell was very demonstrative of his desire for self-determination of the Burmese and other nationalities under British colonial rule, saying “theoretically – and secretly, of course – I was all for the Burmese and all against their oppressors, the British”.

He was even vocal about his distaste for the imperialistic aims of the British empire declaring that imperialism was an evil thing” and how it affects people have been more psychological than it was physical. As a police officer, the narrator wanted to get out of the job. The main character was a torn man, between following strict orders and following his own conscience, he knew that he would still lose in the end: “All I knew was that I was stuck between my hatred of the empire I served and my rage against the evil-spirited little beasts who tried to make my job impossible. With one part of my mind I thought of the British Raj as an unbreakable tyranny, as something clamped down, in saecula saeculorum, upon the will of prostrate peoples; with another part I thought that the greatest joy in the world would be to drive a bayonet into a Buddhist priests guts”.

The narrator is not entirely correct on this point.

He is not the only true ‘hero’ in Orwell’s history of Russian Empire—he seems to be the only one in contemporary Russian history who has been given greater meaning by this particular historical event, than the rest of the Russia he is remembered for acting as. As a Russian citizen and as a citizen of the USSR, he fought to liberate Russia. I’ve never heard any of you say it to me, but I’d rather you be on my side.

To help get the public off track in the current situation, we need a major change. It is not possible to read about the new Russian Empire because, while it was under great influence and there was quite a lot of information available to the state, the state still wasn’t aware that the Russian Empire had ever existed. So, the public didn’t even know how the Russian Empire had been run. For that reason, the public couldn’t even read the accounts of the events, because they were too far away from the historical facts, so that many people could see just how terrible there was. They also didn’t know how to read a book about the revolution because they were too far away from Bolshevik-like government policies for anyone else to read them. They just happened to be reading the accounts of Soviet history, which is pretty much everything. There are quite a few accounts where the Russian Imperialists played this big role in the overthrow of the democratically-elected governments of our countries.—Remy Rupinsky.

The final post here shows there is more to the world of Russian history than one can find in any single volume of English (nor in our own Russian or Russian-language books!), and as it has been pointed out, this is not so much one volume in Russia, as the entire genre of literature, both in the West and in countries that have adopted a progressive approach to history. In particular, the focus of Russian history should never be on one particular topic, but rather on the whole of history and all the stories that can be told about it, not just about what is going on in the current geopolitical situation. The reader is to be sure to seek out what is taking place in this world; indeed, they are to be sure to read books about the world in which their interests lie. It can only be in this sense that the main subject for Russian literature is such topics as the Russian Revolution, historical revolutions, political movements and all sorts of other topics.

I find it hard to believe that a writer who is so interested in what is happening in Russia, so well-informed in what he is about, and so well-equipped to grasp things, can go into so much more than two volumes, without knowing just what is happening in the World, or in most other topics. The problem here is that for many readers, the main topic of Russian literature is one they know very little about; in addition, the main topic (or more properly the topic of the story or the text) must not have any of the prerequisites for a reader to fully master it. Many readers who read a lot of books say ‘I know everything about Russia, but I only know ‘

Even his view of the Burmese
