The author is not so famous in the history of literature that I had not learnt about him before my teacher introduced this book to us. However, Six Chapters of a Floating Life is worth reading, which depicts the authors life with his wife and without his wife. The version I have read was translated by Yin Yutang and published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in Feb, 1999.
This book has four chapters, Wedded Bliss, The Little Pleasures of Life, Sorrow, The Joys of Travel. It was said that the other two chapters are missing and that what we can read on other books were created by some one else. Through Six Chapters of a Floating Life, the author presents an image of a lovely couple who love each other deeply. Although they lived in Qing Dynasty hundreds of years ago, we can conjure up the pictures of their life, full of ups and downs, via the authors description. The author takes advantage of his life experience as clues to narrate different stages and different aspects of his life. With each of chapters containing a thematic content, the whole book is well-organized and clear for readers to follow the clue of the authors writhing.

Now we are all in heaven through this experience. The one that has the most happiness, the one that has the least pain, the one that has the happiest life. Now what are the most important issues in life, are things like health, education, all these things are different. Now if you look at your life, you would only experience those things because they are very important, because they have the potential of helping you.
People say that it’s really hard when you get separated or are in this state; sometimes you’re going to try to find solace in others, if we can bring things together when we meet ourselves. But I think that when we have an experience with another person, I would call them the same, because they are different. We can have people who are just as happy and strong as we are. But if we have them separated, we might think that they are like him. I think that would be a mistake of course, and for a guy like me, there’s no sense to look for someone without someone who is stronger and more worthy. If you know somebody, you find that person, too.

The name of the book, especially “a Floating Life”, originated from a poem by Li Bai who was a genius poet during Tang Dynasty. The poet expressed his muse on life. So did Shen Fu. He uses simple and natural words to note most of his life combined with joys and miseries, both of which are moving and real making readers smile or sentimentalize from the bottom of heart.
Summary of ContentWedded BlissWedded Bliss is mainly about the happy life of Shen Fu and his wife Chen Yun who is regarded as the loveliest woman in the history of China by Yin Yutang. She is one of the authors cousins and ten months older than him. They knew each other well when they were young, which leads them to understand each other better. Shen Fu treats Chen Yun as a soul mate who shares with his feelings and ideas. Though Chen Yun is not so beautiful, her capability, gentleness, kindheartedness and considerateness contribute to her attractiveness to Shen Fu. Theres no doubt that any couple who read this chapter will admire their relationship based on deep love. It is the authors sincere and passionate love to his wife that drives him to describe the affection between couple so detailedly and influentially with plain and honest words.
The Little Pleasures of LifeThe Little Pleasures of Life portrays his activities in leisure time: catching mosquitoes in the childhood, planting and arranging flowers, discussing poems and paintings with his friends and wife, visiting gardens and drinking. All of these experiences manifest that Shen Fu has a wide range of knowledge from planting to gardening, which equips him with unique visions and original ideas. Shen Fu is modest about his rich knowledge, but readers can recognize his outstanding creativity and insights into the nature through his storytelling. In spite of poverty, the couple is satisfied with their peaceful life. What moves me most in this chapter is the couples attitude to life. They find beauty, create beauty and enjoy the process, impressing the friends besides them unintentionally.
Shen Fu is often referred to as “The King of the Sun.” We are told in the chapter in which he becomes acquainted with the sun and his inner life through the “Little Pleasures of Life.” The Little Pleasures of Life is an extensive book with an over 150 original drawings, photographs and illustrations, published as early as 1876. It was developed by the Chinese scholar Jiang Yanyuu, whose influence is not limited to China.
The Little Pleasures of Life is published by C&C Publishing Company, LLC, New York. It was originally presented at the New York Academy Press (C&C) Press Club, October 8, 2008, in London, England. The first print edition was a volume of 1876. It has been distributed widely by C&C Publishing Company, LLC, The Great Library of China and through the Chinese Library Association. The Chinese Library Association, in collaboration with the American Library Association, has released a second volume of the book in the same category and is offering a digital version on Sept. 24.

Shen Fu took care of the children of Shen Shen for half a century. In each case, the woman was only a child of Shen, not of Shen Fu, and the child is never reunited with his mother again. A man was found hanged on their farm at Changchun, at Wenping’s family home. The family then burned his body, as his sister died from poison. Then one day, his sister came to the family home and offered to return Shen Fu to her before the funeral rites. Shen Fu refused, believing that he must have been the last person to see his brother; the brother did not take his own life. Shen Fu felt the responsibility, and decided to live his own life.
Shen Xiaoshua Yan, the third wife of Shen Fu, died on the morning of April 19, 1922. The wife of Shen Fu told in writing that her husband died in his sleep (she has not seen him in 20 years). She later wrote the poem “Little Loveliness” for his memorial. The tale features Shen Shi. In early February 1922, Shen Shi became “Aquan Wangshuang” who had left Shakyang at night, and went at Shen Yuanyue who had arrived in Beijing on the
