English Composition IIEssay Preview: English Composition IIReport this essayAbstractMy father always told me that “Nothing in life is free”. For years I have always been weary when I was told something was free. I would have to double check and ask the question “Am I really getting this for “nothing”. Most of the time the answer was; “No”. The first time I remember dealing with this was buying my first car. It was a beautiful 1993 Ford Explorer, jet black, low miles, and it had a great stereo. The salesman had everything done and ready for me to sign. My father looked over the contract and noticed a “service fee” hidden in the price. According to the salesman, all service for the first three years I owned would be free. But of course the “free” service was paid for in advance. Today I am 37 years old, and there are still times I have to tell my father that he is right.

At midnight on November 17, stores everywhere in America finally began selling the long awaited PlayStation 3, also known as the PS3. Across the country, people waited in line for hours, and even days in some cases, to get their hands on a PlayStation 3. In Kentucky, ardent gamers fired BB guns at people waiting in line in order to get to the PS3s first. Millions of Americans tried to get a PlayStation 3 on that first day; however Sony had only produced 400,000 of them. On average, an additional 100,000 PS3 systems have reached stores each week since November 17. Theyve been flying off the shelves as gamers rush to buy a PS3. The PlayStation 3 has been selling for between four to six hundred dollars in stores, and over two thousand dollars on Ebay. Other popular video game consoles such as the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii are available at much lower prices. So why are people spending so much on the PS3? The graphics and data processing capabilities of a PlayStation 3 far exceed any other gaming console or computer system available for six hundred dollars.

The PlayStation 3 is more than a video gaming console. It offers full supercomputing power at an affordable price. Each PlayStation 3 utilizes the power of one of IBMs fastest central processing units; a PlayStation 3 is eight times as fast and eight times as powerful as most computers. Buying a computer this fast and this powerful would cost thousands of dollars. Yet Sony is offering this computing power for only six hundred dollars. While this is the most expensive gaming console ever sold, it is still an incredible bargain. Like its predecessor, the PlayStation 2, the PS3 is capable of playing videos as well as games. While the PlayStation 2 plays DVDs, the PlayStation 3 can play Blu-ray discs. Blu-ray disc players cost around eight hundred dollars, and the PlayStation 3 offers Blu-ray capabilities combined with incredible gameplay for less than eight hundred bucks.

The PlayStation has been updated with new technology that also means the power of the console is now as good as that of the PS Portable. The PlayStation Portable can store up to 3,200 hours of video simultaneously on a single charge. You might also want to consider getting a more advanced system out of the box so the console can handle better games on the go. For many people the PlayStation system provides the best bang for money when it comes to playing video games, but it also has the best price. Some argue that, at least from a console’s perspective, the PS Portable’s lack of software and support means things could be even easier, so some are asking the next generation of computer gamers to try out the new PS Portable and the PlayStation 3. But you don’t have to wait long to play the PlayStation 3, if you have the budget to play games at a fair price. For now, though, the PS Portable is just the tip of the iceberg.

Ahead of the PlayStation Portable’s official launch, Microsoft announced PlayStation’s new “universal console”. Though the PS Portable has been around for some time now, Microsoft has managed to make some great strides in gaming, including many Xbox games. While Xbox 1’s Kinect has gone through some serious technical and cosmetic changes, Xbox 2’s Kinect can make things considerably easier for people who don’t think like Microsoft’s Redmond team. What Microsoft has done to the PlayStation Portable is pretty remarkable. The PS Portable can do up to 15 million hours of video at once on its own; it only has 12,200 hours of video for that capacity. That’s the best performance possible. When Nintendo’s Switch first came out, it only had two controllers, while the PS3 had two controllers. The Switch’s controllers are slightly heavier and are actually much heavier. As well as that, the PlayStation Vita has a smaller screen and a little higher resolution, which doesn’t sound all that good. The PlayStation Portable has a better processor, an all-in-one controller, and higher resolution screen. But Nintendo also included a small number of extra controls such as a new sound system that controls both the voice input and the video output. Nintendo consoles are known for having a fairly low price tag, with a total price tag of just $199. Since the price of a $199 console tends to match the quality of a console, this makes a very good case for the PS Portable. Despite being a lot less expensive than the PS2 (which, coincidentally, is not quite as much), the PS Vita still makes money and is far cheaper than the PS3 that you can actually buy. That said, it does feel as though there are a huge number of games that simply do not need to use the PS Vita more than they do now. To really be able to enjoy games, something that seems to be missing out on for many, that can take quite some time. Still, those that use the PS Vita often can’t even watch game play on the PS3. That’s not to say there aren’t a lot of games that will need to be done, but that isn’t the case with any
