Is Capitalism Bad?
Emmett Carroll gives few examples how the lynching described in poetry, essay, songs, etc. For example of poetry “the lynching” whom written by Claude Mckay says, “his spirit in smoke ascended to high heaven His father, by the cruelest way of pain, had bidden him to him to his bosom once again”(Mckay) shows that how the lynching the black people. This poetry sounds like lynching is sacred, and gorgeous. This poetry describes that the black people who got burned by mobs had sent to the heaven and reborn in there. It sounds like the black people who got lynch will have new gorgeous lives up there. However the novel that we have read for the class shows different opinion. The book “the racism in North America” shows that how the black people got treated and how the white people thought of blackness during that century. In the novel, describes that white people had opinion about the blackness in negative way, such as evil, dirty, and etc. The white people totally thought that black people are lower ranked than white people and also vulgar. Also the photographic “the burning corpse of William Brown” (which linked in number80), shows the circumstance of the lynching by burning. This picture shows exactly how the mobs’ faces like and the situation. When I see this picture, I felt that how it cruel and no mercy around there. It was totally different feeling between the poetry I have read and the picture, because the poetry describes the feeling of the lynching as reborn. The Song “Death of Emma Hartsell” describes about how the lynching was awful thing. One part of the lyrics says “they got to town by half past seven; their necks were broke before eleven. The people there were a sight to see. They hung them to a dogwood tree” (M.Baker). This part is well shown about how the lynching was cruel and makes me to think different way than the poetry says.

In the encyclopedia, Vigilante is same as Ku Klux Klan (KKK).
