Black Lives Matter Movement
The debate over this controversy sparked massive social movements and outbursts across America. “Black Lives Matter” was a movement that resulted from the killings of unarmed black men by the police. Activists of this movement fought to expose these national problems by various marches, boycotts, complaints etc. “All Lives Matter” is basically a movement to ensure society that all lives matter not only black lives. Of course all lives matter, but lets be honest, what ethnic group in america right now has faced more oppression and persecution since the creation of this country, than that of the african americans? The controversy here is whether or not one phrase bears more significance. The phrase black lives matter definitely holds a significant meaning and outreach to not only black communities, but also modern society. Even since the Civil Rights ERA, there has still been forms of injustice against blacks, which is why the black lives matter movement deserves the most support.        Black Lives Matter is more significant than All Lives Matter because it demonstrates and exploits the violence that are in our communities, which is why the movement should be held at a high standard. According to the online article “Red is the New Black”, from the Huffington Post, the author demonstrates this ideal sense of violence that surges black communities. This movement holds the potential to uncover some of the real struggles in working class black communities. You might ask, Well whats the controversy here? The controversy is how this movement is trying to be suppressed by claims that blacks arent the only ones suffering, in which the phrase all lives matter came to surface. This means that people are aware of whats going on in these communities today. The justice system is to be discredited as well because because wheres the change? According to Huffington Post statistics, 37% of unarmed men gunned down by police were african american. This very statistic exposes that the majority being pursued is black male. With this being said, there is more to the term black lives matter then its literal meaning.         Blacks Live Matter is a  movement aimed with a purpose to expose injustice against african americans in this country. The violence going on in our communities is already a call for the need of a massive support system, in which this movement can provide. This support system can diminish the racial stratosphere and corruption against these people is society. For example, in the novel The New Jim Crow, the authors main purpose is to inform us on the restrictions that blacks are put on in the justice system. The title itself sends a deep massage, to compare a newly masked justice system, to a time in American history where laws were literally designed to oppress newly freed slaves. Now, we are no longer slaves, but prisoners to judicial ruling in america. According to the author Michelle Alexander, 40% of inmates incarcerated in america are black. 1 in 3 black men have criminal records and another 37% of young black males in america wont graduate high school. In addition to that, over 100 unarmed black men were gunned down by the police in 2015. This is the information mass media and tabloids fail to provide. According to the huffington post, a black man is killed extrajudicially every 28 hrs. Men ages 17-25 are the most at risk. If this isnt enough evidence to convince those that this movement has massive significance, i dont know what can.  When activists say “Black Lives Matter” its because this country has a tendency to say otherwise, hence the All lives matter movement. That “ All lives matter” movement is meant to drive  the attention away from these core facts. This is the significance of the movement is educate those who still think this is a world where black vs white still doesnt exist.
