Black Greek Letter Organizations were created to provide brotherhood/sisterhood for African-Americans attending college. This promoted unity and friendship among the black college students, along with a feeling and sense of belonging. Sisterhood and brotherhood means joining a group of women or men that are striving for similar goals thus drawing sisters and brothers together as one strong unit. It is also the feeling of knowing you can count on your sisters and brothers in good times and in bad. More importantly, sisterhood and brotherhood is the making of friendships that will last a lifetime.
Black Greek Letter organizations goals were to uplift the black race. More specifically to encourage black college students to strive for and uphold high scholastic and ethical standards. Along with learning how to lead or gain additional leadership experiences and skills within their individual chapters. Thus drawing a parallel between ssucceeding in school and succeeding in life. If a student can hold him or her self to a high standard or set way of doing things right while in college, after this student moves on and venture out into the world they will most likely be a positive person/ role model in the community which will in terms uplift the black race.
Lastly making Black Greek Letter organizations a part of enriching black pride in the world, in a sense of we can do and be just as successful as any other race. We can hold high positions and be well established just like the next race.
