Essay #2
Waking up to my grandmother screaming my name started one of the worst days of my life. I decided to stay out late the night before and was looking forward to sleeping in on that Sunday, little did I know sleeping in would be the last thing on my mind.

I jumped out of my bed and ran down the hallway to find my grandfather curled up on the floor with a bottle of pills scattered on the floor around him. My grandmother was quivering and crying while my grandfather did not move. I used every bit of strength I had and picked his limp body off of the floor and placed him on the couch.

By this time I was sweating profusely and my grandmother had fallen to her knees. My grandfather was not able to speak but could open his eyes. His hands were cold and clammy but his forehead was covered with sweat. I immediately called the ambulance.

While waiting on the ambulance to arrive, I finally got him to make eye contact with me and squeeze my hand, but he still could not make a sound. When the ambulance finally arrived and put him on the stretcher we were informed that it was a stroke and he was unable to move his right side.

The ride to the hospital was the longest twenty minutes of my life. Although I took this same route almost every day, everything seemed different. My grandfather was a comedian, or so he thought. He had something funny to say about everything, including the old barn that I passed just as I turned onto the highways that lead me to the hospital that he was in an ambulance heading to. My grandmother rode in the ambulance with him, I could only imagine how she was feeling about the ride.
