Question 1 (40 marks)The biography of Malala YousafzaiMalala Yousafzai was born on July, 12, 1997 and originated from Mingora, Pakistan which is located in the Swat Valley (Malala Yousafzai 2015). Malala Yousafzai is the youngest representative activist from Pakistan who is brave to strive for the right in pursuing education for every female citizens in her nation (Malala Yousafzai 2014). Other than that, she has a youthful enthusiasm in education and also in creating her own dreams and future. The culture of the Pakistan is known as a patriarchal country and the Taliban believed that female is a threat for their nation once they receive education (The World’s Children’s Prize 2010).

In the early years, the girl’s school in Swat was destroyed by the Taliban. There was no education provided for female and women have no right to seek academic in Pakistan before the existence of Malala who voice out for those rights. In her young age at 11 or 12 years old, Malala had used pseudonym by the name of Gul Makai to blog under BCC Urdu about the real life under Taliban (Pierres 2013). The New York Times had also made a documentary of Malala’s life and also made her a fame in public speaking. Besides that, she was also nominated with lots of awards and had also received the International Children’s Peace Prize (Pierres 2013). Malala’s life was not smooth as there were lots of ups and downs. In October 2012, a tragic incident happened. She was shot on the left side of her forehead by a Taliban gunman who wanted to keep her lips sealed (The Independent 2015). Fortunately, miracle did happened and she successfully survived from the tragic incident and had spent a few months in rehabilitation. The comeback of Malala had made her become inspirational and famous and she was nominated as Time Magazine‘s ‘100 most influential people’ (Clinton 2013). Other than that, Malala was also nominated for Nobel Peace Prize in 2013 but sadly she did not achieve the prize (The Independent 2015). Yet in the year of 2014, she won the Nobel Peace Prize and was the youngest female to won the prize at a young age of 17. Malala’s first book titled “I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban” was published and she had successfully influenced and inspired the people around the world to voice out their own rights (Pierres 2013).The Big Five Personality Traits of Malala YousafzaiMalala Yousafzai can be explained by The Big Five Personality Model. There are five basic dimensions in the Big Five Personality Model namely extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and also openness to experience.1. ExtraversionExtraversion is the comfort level with relationships and also the ability to engage with the external world. Extraverts are energetic, assertive, a person filled with self-confidence, positive, action oriented and also seeks excitement. While introverts are quiet, timid, does not socialize with people, lack of energy and often prefer to be alone (Psychometric Success 2013). Malala is a girl with high level of extraversion because she scores high in assertiveness. Despite living and growing up in a country which is wielded by the power of the Taliban’s, yet she stood up and speak for the rights to live in peace, treated with dignity, equality of opportunity and also to be educated (The Independent 2015). Although the Taliban’s had banned and had an implacable attitude towards female education by destroying about 150 schools in the past year, but this never stops Malala from striving her rights to be educated (Malala Youfsafzai 2012). She was encouraged by her father Ziauddin Yousafzai, an anti-Taliban campaigner and also a head teacher to speak out for girls’ education. In the year 2008, she spoke at a local press club meeting about the topic of ‘’How dare the Taliban take away my basic right to education?’’ She is also a fearlessness person who protest against injustice (Girl Effect Team 2013). She also believes in the wise saying, “The pen is mightier than the sword “and had been blogging for BBC’s Urdu site under a pseudonym which is Gul Makai and also writing an anonymous diary about her life under the threats of Taliban (BBC 2014).
