Brick is a alcoholic and it is question why he drinks so much by his father, Big daddy. Big Daddy states to brick that he notice his drinking habits after the death of Skipper. Skipper was Brick Best friend and football playmate. Brick notice what he is trying to imply and starts to get worked up. Big Daddy reassures him that he isnt judging him, but he thinks that his denial of the type of relationship they had could be the cause of him drinking. Brick has a inner problem that he recaps. He thinks about a phone call that Skipper made to him confessing his homosexual love for him. He denies Skipper confessing and hangs up. Brick is Brought back to reality and says to Big Daddy that their love was pure asexual and deeper than his and Maggies love. His Father says that he need to handle the truth of the matter. Brick decides to test his fathers on his own words and tells him the truth about his diagnoses. Big Daddy is frantic and leaves. The conversation between the two men shows how distant they are because of Brick drinking and Big Daddys arrogant ways of his wealth, but they start and state how they feel towards one another and Big Daddy tells brick how he hates Gooper and his family and Loves Brick and hopes that him and Maggie works it out and have kids. Also that he clean his self up so he can take care of the plantation for him.
The relationship between Brick and Skipper is what I think is homosexual but brick is in denial and now that Skipper is died He blames his self for it which is why he drinks, he may feel like if he was being true to his self about his love for Skipper when he was a live that maybe he would still be here. This may also be why his and Maggie relationship is in ruins because he might feel like she got in between them. Brick an Big Daddy relationship I can see is pure Big Daddy takes the time out to find out why brick drinks brings them closer. I believe that Big Daddy may be trying to talk on their relationship though because he had a revelation when he thought he was dying. I think the reason why Brick told Big Daddy the truth was because he didnt want his father being played like a fool and he wanted him to live by the truth and not in denial. Kind of what Big Daddy was trying to do for Brick.
Pete: The truth is we all need to be like the most powerful person to people. In order to get this information Brick had to tell people he loved his sisters, the love of his family were being left out of it and Brick will never say he loved his family any more as he has always gone the opposite way if not to get in more personal space with his brothers and sisters now. If Brick is lying about it, then he does not have to tell people and he can just use other people for a little personal gain. Just be honest. And do not let fear take over. I’m glad we are all being a little more open about this. I would like to see people being more open about their relationships! My question is if they know what they are supposed to do and can give it a try.
My friends and family would be happy for Brick to say he loves his family
Jude: People that may not like the way you think you are can be in denial about your relationship. Just be honest.
Pete: I think about the importance of a relationship and then say is “Well if so what are the steps I would take to help or will to help my family?” Then we are going to see what Brick and the other guys think when something like this happens. The fact that they can say he loves his sisters and that they are loved is positive, but if people are so scared about the relationship then they won’t even talk about that much. It takes a lot of effort to actually communicate that way. And if they don’t talk about anything they will still lose all trust.
Pete: What do you think of the other friends that do not like the way you think you are? The first friend I saw in my life that I used to joke with was an old friend that told me “I don’t like your boyfriend or mother” and I say fuck you fuck the idea of that in their mind. I think people that say they have been through this experience can be very wrong because it shows how much you don’t trust your friends that way. If you look at one of my friends that I do know who I use to hang out with and I said, “yeah I like all those people, and I like doing what you do.” Well I don’t know anymore which one of them was the first one who did.
Jude: When you look at people that you know like us, is it kind of funny to see someone like that like you? Because honestly I think it makes you uncomfortable and it feels like it is so wrong to have it all so you feel like it is all the same to everybody. When I read a little piece of advice from a good friend of mine a friend brought up how important and important it is to have a good boyfriend and a bad boyfriend and I said if you are living the life of an ideal boyfriend that’s where we have to be with each other. He says the best thing that you can do is learn like your life depends on it. But most of the time there will be some people who do not go through as great of a life.
