Shennice KnightThe Big History is a project that explains and examines scientific history from the Big Bang to the present day. The information I was interested in was about ancient times, specifically about the Ancient Greek and Roman scientists, and societies. I found everything I wanted to learn more about in chapter 7.1 “The First Cities and States Appear”. However, it wasnt easy to find it. I spent a significant amount of time thinking that the project was not fully developed/complete because I was stuck on the very first unit not knowing how to move on. The fact that you could go into the next main idea by scrolling to the bottom is, in hindsight, not a bad idea. Everything would flow chronologically which is, I would say, something that is important for a website like this. It was organized awkwardly enough that I wasnt quite sure why Early Life was the sixth unit. But, once again in hindsight, it makes sense that they would have, what appears to me, to be some information on certain science information before continuing on to certain eras. The website allowed me to find enough information on early scientific beliefs like how the idea that the universe was geocentric and how that idea was passed on from scientist to scientist until someone enforced a contrasting idea that was backed up time and time again. What I read was easy enough to understand that previous knowledge of the subject wasnt necessary. I appreciated the idea of the timeline that was a recurring theme throughout the website. This was shown in articles that talked heavily about a specific person and was used to highlight their accomplishments. It was interesting to see that the people behind this project was invested in what is to come in the future but I really didnt care enough to give it a second look. Overall, I think the website and whole project itself is a good idea for those who are interested in reading up on, or even watching, some things that could give them crash courses and in depth lessons on where science was, is, and where it could be heading.
