More Than a Friend
When I remember the incident it feels as if it was a bad dream. Her memories sneak out of my eyes and roll down my cheeks. It has already been two years since I lost her but still it hurts me a lot. I remember every second I spent with her. Lucky, a Japanese Spitz was the first living being other than humans with whom I was closely attached to. The three years of my life spent with her were very memorable to me.
She was brought to me when I was in 8th grade. It was a cold, winter night when I first saw her with her small child alongside her. They both were very adorable. I was very happy and excited to have pets with me. My Father did not like to keep pets and hated them. I used to fight with my dad in their defense. We had very joyous memories together. Her little child died after 4 months. I was partially heartbroken but I had Lucky with me. She was used to losing her child as the previous owner used to sell the puppies. She now was very close to me, closer than my brother. She used to wait for me near the door when it was time for me to return from school. I had had 2 pet dogs before I got Lucky but they were different. When I arrived at the house she always used to be there to greet me. Those were the best days of my life.
The life span of a dog is short and Lucky was already in her adult stage when we got her. I knew that one day she would not be there with me but I didn’t want to think of it. She used to get sick sometimes. It was a sad moment for me. When she got cured I was more than happy. Lucky was very special to me. She seemed to understand everything I spoke to her and responded accordingly. She also used to follow me a lot. She used to be there when I spoke any word. Although she was not a trained dog she used to play with me as if she was a trained one. Her eyes and face was different from other. She used to get very excited to play with me. During the days when I was not with her she even refused eating. She only had food after hearing my voice over the phone. She was the most intelligent animal I had ever seen.
She learned doing Namaste (a greeting gesture in Nepal joining hands as in praying). She didn’t do Namaste unless I asked her to. She was very closely attached to me. Then one day she started being inactive. I thought it was just her normal sickness and she would be fine in few days.
