“The Beauty Myth”, by Naomi Wolf talks about how women play a big role when it comes to beauty, and how society has a lot to do with how women should look. In the movie “Carrie”, Carrie is a girl who was bullied by her classmates, mostly because she was thought of as weird, and because she wasnt like the other girls in her class., which was beautiful. She didnt follow society and did not know what it meant to be beautiful, only because her mother was a very religious person who kept her in the house at all times except for school, because she felt that almost everything was a sin. In the article, “the beauty myth”, wolf quotes “the contemporary ravages of the beauty backlash are destroying women physically and depletes us psychologically.” women are so worried about looks, that they often times are jealous of each other for being better, or tend to destroy the identitys of others, which is mostly shown in chick flicks, like mean girls, legally blonde, confession of a teenage drama queen, etc. Being that Carrie was teased in school made her have a low self esteem, and made her think she was not beautiful. When she was asked to the prom by a guy that she liked and when she became prom queen, her self esteem became higher and she finally saw herself as beautiful. A popular girl in her school who really dislike Carrie had lowered her self esteem by pouring a bucket a pig blood, while she was being announced as prom queen to cause the whole school to laugh at her. Carries self esteem lowered and caused her to become angry in rage, so she decided to set the school on fire and killing her schoolmates, which is an example of her being psychologically depleted.
