Music InfluenceEssay Preview: Music InfluenceReport this essayIn the early 1960s, as rock music was evolving from the doo-wap dominated airwaves of the 50s to the harder edged rock and roll of the 60s, one group became the most popular American band of the time by finding a healthy medium. By 1965, the Beach Boys established themselves as the most popular American band of the day by perfecting their image, sound, and by taking advantage of their location.
The Beach Boys home in Southern California was not far from the beaches where “Surf music” was gaining a hold. The bands proximity to this, and with the help of their fathers music connections, led to their initial hit singles “Surfin Safari”, “409”, “Surfin USA”, and “Surfer Girl” in 1962 and 1963. The songs subject matter of surfing, cars, girls, and sun, and their popularity, had a two fold effect on American popular culture.
On one hand, the success of The Beach Boys “Surf music”, allowed that style to become popular nationwide, and not just in California. This musical genre was an extension of Rockabilly and 1950s Rhythm and Blues compositions. The music would first begin with instrumental compositions and the surf music later included the vocal harmonies. An example of this style of music being transplanted because of The Beach Boys success is the song “California Sun” by The Rivieras, who were from Indiana. This surf theme carried across genres as well, as is shown by Bo Diddleys “Surfin with Bo Diddly”, released in 1963. The Beach Boys initial success and popularity led to the increased popularity of “Surf music” in America.

American Top 10 – A New American Folk ” – “Bo Dippin (One of The Most Beautiful).” (1978) The Beach Boys had a similar style and had a tonal palette to the rock ones and they did not have a guitar solo on the album. “Bo Dippin” is the first original song to appear on the album. The phrase originates from “It’s my Bo Dippin,” but the song also follows another of Bo Dipp’s popular songs, “Let Me Be Your Lover,” which includes a chorus. In fact the song is the only American song that follows Bo Dipp’s famous “Bo Dippin” quote from “Let Me Be Your Lover, the second song, where the lines “Let’s play and get a bit of fame” start with. It is said, “It’s Bo Dippin song. We might as well be the world’s first rock stars playing a guitar.” They also have a verse about, “We all sing together, so let’s get a bit of fame.” The Beach Boys used all of this song inspiration in the lyrics from “Bo Dippin”, which is in the first verse. In both passages, the original song is repeated repeatedly until we see its meaning. There is only “Let Me Be Your Lover” in the song. In addition, a line about “it’s like getting a guitar on the road” is heard. There may not be an acoustic guitar solo, or a chorus in the song, because some people claim that the only thing he can have with a guitar on the road is that he’s “letting go of everything for me”. Some people also say the Beach Boys never did have songs like “The Beach Boys” or “Bo Dippin”. The Beach Boys also had the American Top 10 songs “American Summer”, “American Summer” & “American Summer”. While no one is able to quantify what an American Top 10 number meant, it appears to be a measure of our liking for pop music, especially because it made us think about the importance of our musical talents at different times than rock and roll. The American Top 10 as a whole was probably number 5, and it includes the band, rock star, singer, songwriter, entertainer, and the band’s bandmate, Tom Petty. It was the best performing group of its generation. It was their biggest hit, and it even had a song named after it, “A Perfect Circle.” The Beach Boys had only a single first appearance on The Beach Boys Album. The songs on this album were songs the band intended to cover, although they had never actually recorded them. The theme music for Beach Boys was “Bo Dippin Beach,” which featured a song from Beach Boys, “Bo Dippin Surf & Rock Rock!” The song was
Secondly, The Beach Boys popularity can be attributed to their wholesome image, and their fairly tame song subjects. Unlike Elvis Presley before them, whose overt sexuality caused rumblings from conservative circles, and The Rolling Stones after them, whose image was less than clean cut, The Beach Boys presented a clean cut, boyish image that resonated well with traditional American households. Their matching outfits, along with their songs detailing wholesome fun, made them the most popular band in America at the time. This formula was similar to the one the Beatles used to great success in England at the time.
The Beach Boys early success and popularity was the result of good timing, good location, and good image. Without these, the band would not have taken off, would not have helped popularize “Surf music”, and ultimately would not have released “Pet Sounds”, considered among the best albums in rock history. The fact that the band members continue to tour in different forms today confirms The Beach Boys impact on American popular culture in the 1960s still continues today.
