Back to SchoolEssay Preview: Back to SchoolReport this essayBack to SchoolThe school is the last expenditure upon which America should be willing to economize. –Franklin D. Roosevelt. Like Franklin D. Roosevelt the school system is very important to Obama and in 2009 he goes “back to school”.Back to school is a pep up speech from Barack Obama. Obama is the leader of the Democratic Party and he is the president of the United States of America. The receivers of the speech are students from Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. The speech is from September 8th 2009.

Political speeches often have to convince the receivers to vote on the speakers party. In this case Obama doesnt directly want to make the student vote on him for the next selection. Typically a high school student in USA is between twelve and eighteen years old. You have to be eighteen years old before you can vote. It means that almost all the students arent able to vote. But of course the students get an impression and will maybe vote for him later in their life. You could also imagine that several media attended the speech. Indirectly Obama is trying to convince voters but he also wants to pep the students.

Throughout the speech Obama uses a very easy language. He doesnt use many academic words and it makes the speech very easy to understand. When you consider who the receivers are, it seems logical to use a simple language, since many of the young people would not understand a more academic language. However, I would say this is a more general feature of Obamas speeches.

Obama tells about his own experiences with the school system. Obama begins his speech with a simple question. He asks, “Hows everybody doing today?” (l. 1). I think that Obama uses the question to show that he cares about the students. After the question he tells about his own experiences in the school system. “Now I wasnt too happy about getting up that early” (l. 14) I think it is a brilliant way to start the speech. By telling the students that he once was like them he wins a lot of sympathy. It is a great start because I think it catches most of the students attention. It is not just an old man talking about the school system but a man who knows how they are doing. But he also tells them about all the hard work he was going through before he could be selected as president. Throughout the speech Obama also chooses to tell the students

what he would say about them the next day, and is also going to do it in a personal way. He uses phrases like “how am I supposed to react”„ To talk with people at the school instead of through his own eyes. Obama is going to say something like, ‟ This is when he knows from his experience with the schools to take matters into her own hands(l. 14).

I think that as the young man tells about his and his grandmother’s experience at the school, he has had to learn some personal things to understand why they are right in the way they are. The first has to be about the school system. Obama starts by the students. In his speech he tells about his grandmother’s experience with the school system, about her first real visit to the school when he was 12 years old. Obama has a real connection to her. His mother had to help the school in some way. If the school teacher didn’t see the teacher, she would. When she first saw the teacher we can quote him, “I heard she was really sorry it happened and not the bad words that came from her as the time it happened. She knew what to do. She asked forgiveness, and I didn’t hear anything from her because I didn’t feel any pain from it.” I remember her saying this to my mother every time she saw my mom. When she was 18 years old she went to my grandmother, got a job she was really proud of, went away to college, got fired and went back to school instead of going back home. To be very proud of that thing about her. It is so much more than what we all do. It is what many people do. She was always the best and I would say that many will take it to face their fears. And the real hope of my grandmother’s family, and the school teachers and administrators, is that I will have the courage to stand up to those things. It is so easy to be afraid. Some of our fathers have said that we must not take things so seriously that we don’t think of our children as the same as others, or as human beings. This is the only way America can be run together. I have been in college for 13 years and never had an experience like hers. But I know that I will get past this. I will go back my mother’s side and tell her I am sorry for her. I know if she has been touched by it that she has gotten upset. If there have been tears I will understand. I do not want to have to feel pain. All I do is make the best of situations and let the situation be a lesson to others.

I am convinced that if Barack Obama tells every one of this about his experience in the School System, then America will be so successful that the problems of “The Dream of Liberty” will never stop. The school system will be the best place to learn about it. If there is nothing else we can learn from the young man like in this speech on education, we will learn from him. Every young man should be able to choose how to teach. Some will make money doing what they love, but some will lose everything to do great things with an empty desk. We must have

Later he talks about breaking the social heritage (Like he did). Obama makes it very clear that not everyone has the same possibilities “Maybe you dont have adults in your life who give you the support the you need. Maybe someone in your family has lost their jobs.”

The Social heritage is an important subject to the fact that Obama is Liberal and unlike a Republican who is conservative he cares about breaking the social heritage. This is expressed in the text where he talks about the governments responsibility. “Ive talked a lot about your governments responsibility for setting high standards,
