The colony of New France was different than the British North American colonies in many ways. The French held friendly relations with the Indians unlike the British who were hostile to the Indians and threw them off the lands or used them as slaves. They had an autocratic government without a jury whereas the colonies had more representative government with the people more involved. Also, the Englishmen had much more of a motive to move to the colonies because many of the British were landless farmers who came to North America as indentured servants for promised lands. The French had much more landowning peasants with little will to move. Also, the only motive the French really had was to spread their protestant beliefs, but the protestant Huguenots werent given the right to travel to New France.

There were many factors that led to the French settlement of New France, but one of the most important was the beaver. This animal provided the French with a source of food and opened up the industry of fur trading. The Indians helped the French in fur trading by helping to trap the beavers.
