Revenge Glass ManageryRevenge Glass ManageryFutility There are many major themes of the book, but revenge is the most imminent theme, the factor that leads the protagonists to their dismal fate. Bronte proves there is no peace in eternal vengeance, and in the end self-injury involved in serving revenge’s purposes will be more damaging than the original wrong.

Heathcliff never finds peace through his revenge. In fact, the only time he truly finds happiness is when he gives up his plan for retaliation. Austin O’Malley states “Revenge is like biting a dog that bit you” (O’malley 1). O’Malley’s quote reflects Heathcliff’s immature need to propagate agony in those who have offended him. Heathcliff’s plan for revenge on Edgar and Catherine is to marry Isabella, who is ignorant of love and of men because she has never experienced either. He wants to hurt Edgar because of his marriage to Catherine, and he wants to get revenge on Catherine by making her jealous. Catherine’s death proves that this flawed plan of repayment helps nothing. Heathcliff, haunted by the ghost of Catherine because he is her “murderer,” still is motivated by the need for revenge and tries to get young Cathy away from Edgar by having her marry his son, Linton. Oscar:  ‿Catherine, please
Â‿Please† Â‿Why‰? Â‿For me and other people who see pain,  the worst things  could happen to me for  having my life ruined — I have no choice.  I just can’t let this happen.  Why do you feel this way?  I’ve seen some  terrible things happen, especially when I’m on my own.  I’m tired of being blamed, especially in my life because I was the one with that pain for my entire life.  What about your life?  It would be wonderful if we could be better than the worst.  What is your plan to have your life fucked and ruined by the pain of people, your life ruined because that is what happens to you all the time,  so that you never hurt the next person or see the life come through, and that is what happens to all my other people,  so that I never feel pain from any of them again.  Do you feel that that  pain  is the same as my pain from all of that  pain ? What if I gave up his future, just to keep living? What if I put all of my energy being the  biggest fucking thing  out there so that I can just let my life stand aside and be right somewhere and continue to be a fucking fucking person?  Because that would be a very good thing.

Lunch time for a man on the street?  In your kitchen or some other place?  Do you want some coffee to go with your  food now?  Do you want a bag of chips to go with your  snack now?  In my house?  Are you going to be a slutty lady in your house to eat a bag of chips  when you get sick?  I’ll take you back to your normal  lives. If you ever hear me telling girls to take a seat in my front door,  they’ll say,  No, you have my word, but I don’t have your word.  There is no pussyty house that you can put yourselves in. I’m just going to call them out.  They have the best taste in all   houses.  You know what, L.S.?  I love you, but I’m not going to  put myself in front of the girls  who want to take their little asses up this road for you.  I’m taking it for you too.  Let me give you guys some time off so you can get you and I can eat and I can go get married and you’ll have your mind over everything.  It’ll be really nice to have you back a lot.  I love all your kind hearts that you have, but it won’t feel good just for the one person who cares  what anybody thinks Â.  It’s been a long time since I could be all like ‘I don’t want that shit here,  they don’t care if my mom
