When America hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki with atomic bombs, it forced japan to surrender, drawing a dramatic conclusion to WWII. The decision about the bombs was an unnecessary action that America pulled which brings us to question if the diplomatic measure was the right path to go. I believe that America did what was right at that time by attacking japan with two atomic bombs they should have taken strictly military measures, that would force the Japanese to unconditional surrender. Even though japan was expanding its military power they were on the verge of collapse and they were going to fall with or without the atomic bombs. Americas reason for dropping the bomb in Hiroshima was to prevent the Soviet Union form joining; they wanted to show the world that they were a strong country, and to protect their discovery of the atomic bomb.

America knew that japan was on the verge of collapse, but when the Soviet Union suggested that they should join the war which America was against. Knowing that they wanted to join Dwight Eisenhower addressed President Truman by stating “I foresaw certain difficulties arising out of such participation and suggested that, at the very least, we ought not to put ourselves in the position of requesting or begging for soviet aid.” (Document C). This gives us a clear reason why releasing the atomic bomb in Hiroshima was important to the U.S because they did not want to be seen as a weak country, but a country that developed and released the first atomic weapon. America chose the diplomatic measure to show the Soviet Union that they did not want or need their help and even though it concluded the second war it killed thousands of people and destroyed cities in japan. With a country that is about to collapse it make it easier for the Americans to attack them even though the Japanese attacked pearl harbor, the reason for this bombs was for revenge and to intimidate the soviet union. This is the reason America went with the diplomatic measure rather than a strictly military measure designed to force Japans unconditional surrender.
