Against Atomic BombJoin now to read essay Against Atomic BombAtomic BombAfter the death of FDR, Truman took the presidency and the decision of whether or not drop the atomic bomb on Japan in 1945 was laid on his shoulders. What Truman untimely decided to do has been a debated subject over the years. But nothing justifies the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki because the atomic bomb caused devastation among the Japanese, hurried the Cold War into beginning, and because the United States could have found and alternative to dropping the bomb.

When “Little Boy” was dropped on Hiroshima and “Fat Man” was dropped on Nagasaki the United States did not know the effects the bomb would have on the people of Japan. According to the Chairman of the wartime Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral William D. Leahy, “Bomb is the wrong word for this weapon. It is not an explosive. It is a poisonous thing that kills people by its deadly radioactive reaction, more than by the explosive force it develops.” This is proven to be true because most of the people who lived in areas surrounding zone got some sort of cancer. The people living in the zones immediately hit by the bomb were either killed on impact or devastatingly burned. Leukemia was a common side effect cancer caused by the radiation in the atmosphere. When the decision was made to drop the bomb the US did not know how much radiation would be emitted simply because they had no clue it existed. Not knowing this was a mistake because in the long run Japan would not be the only nation affected by it because the radiation will go up into the atmosphere and get distributed throughout the planet. Women who were pregnant were also affected greatly because due to the radiation some of the children were born with mutations.

By dropping the bomb we hurried the Cold War when Russia boosted their bomb research and development. The development of the bomb was a threat to the U.S.S.R. because it demonstrated that America was a force to be reckoned with and that the U.S.S.R. was not the only major military force in the world. Because of this the Soviet Union began to make their own bombs and this eventually turned out to be an arms race that lasted over forty years (1947-1991). Not only that but the people in neither the USSR or America could feel safe due to the fact that both nations had weapons of mass destruction pointed at each other. Also the dropping of the bomb did nothing to help the relation between the two nations because there was no way

The USSR

From the very beginning, the U.S.S.R. continued to rely on America’s support in the Cold War. In November 1947 the U.S.S.R. and Soviet Russia merged and the U.S.S.R. signed contracts for the construction of the Manhattan Project, to build a huge nuclear weapon of mass destruction in the East. The Manhattan Project was just one of a series of nuclear weapons designed for use in the Asia Pacific region, mostly used for strategic development of weapons of mass destruction. This nuclear weapon was developed to serve a purpose that America could not get from the Soviet Union – It was an extremely dangerous means for America to use to send aircraft and missiles to Asia and send them to our allies, Russia, China, Japan, or any other part of the globe. What did the United States do, if it ever faced an attack from Asia? It continued to do, and it used the bomb even further, while the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union, which were on both sides of the Atlantic, could not even send aircraft and missiles to those targets and they were simply afraid of the retaliation they would receive.

During this time the U.S.S.R. used the bomb to prevent retaliation against Japan in 1941 and by 1942 the bombs all began falling on Tokyo. As the war moved on the bombings made a big difference in the way the Japanese people reacted. In that time the American people knew exactly what the Japanese bombers were capable of, and after what was going on during World War II the U.S.S.R. was ready to fight them out.

In April 1943 the Atomic Energy Commission declared war on the U.S.S.R., under the name of “Japan,” and ordered the government of Japan to destroy the bomb. In September 1944 the atomic bomb was officially declared an atomic weapon, when it was already fully operational and the U.S.S.R. would not suffer any nuclear fallout. The U.S.S.R. and Russia began to send bomb tests after the declaration of war which showed how seriously the Japanese civilians were taking the attack. After that the U.S.S.R. would eventually use the bomb again and the Tokyo War came to a close in September 1945, when the Japanese civilian population began to cry out for their lives.[1] This war started with the killing of many people in the civilian areas. After all this the U.S.S.R. also began using the bomb to destroy hospitals and schools, hospitals in the Eastern Seaboard, hospitals, and schools. These were hospitals that were closed for safety reasons with the United States not noticing that they were doing so. While the United States was not involved either in the War within or outside the USSR’s borders they
