Throughout the 18 century to the 20th century the long distance migrations played a very major role on continuities and changes throughout the entire world such as the European movement to the rest of the world and the Asians coming to America .

Throughout the whole time period the necessity for migration was greatly needed. During the 1700s and the early 1800s the purpose of migration for Europe especially to the Americas was to take as many raw materials as possible to bring back to their home country such as growing potatoes and taking it back to Europe which increased their population greatly and greatly helped their economy. In order to get these raw materials they utilized the Atlantic slave trade that played a major role and was at its peak in the seventeenth century within the trade known as the triangular trade. In the 1700s overall nothing changed within the slave trade except it kept getting even more successful. In the 19th century the transport of Africans started to decrease because slaves were reproducing at a high amount and people began setting abolitionist movements within the Americas but had many people come for religious freedom and to start a new life. By the 20th century the slave trade and the triangular trade was to the point of nonexistence but had a large amount of European migration to the Americas .

Also another world region affected by migration over time for Europe was Asia and especially India for their luxurious items. During the 1700s the Dutch and the British were fighting for commercial dominance in Asia and they had both taken parts of Asia and utilized it to bring back raw materials back to their countries. As it got into the 19th century England had taken over most of the trade because they had more merchants migrate and create British ports and even were able to get merchants to trade with
