The Assessment Process
The Assessment ProcessJamie BennettBSHS/395June 29, 2015Don LiffThe Assessment ProcessThe three phases of the helping process involves assessment, planning, and implementation. Each component has its own parts of the equation to make it work. Assessment has making initial contact, problem identification, and gathering and assessing information. Planning has developing complete picture of the client, plan development, and arranging for services. Finally there is implementation which involves providing services coordinating services, problem resolution, and monitoring service delivery. All of these are important roles to the helping process. Below will show what is involved in the assessment process.“The assessment phase of the helping process is the diagnostic study of the client and the client’s environment. It involves intial contact with an applicant as well as gathering and assessing information,” (McClam & Woodside, 2012). During this time initial contact is very important to gain access to the client’s information and their needs. Case review, report writing, documentation, and client participation starts the process. These are very important to be able to help the client achieve the help they need. After reviewing a client’s information that is given in the beginning starts the process leading to contact. Documenting and reporting information that is discussed between the worker and the client starts their personal file and lets the worker know what they are eligible for. Strength based approaches are very valuable to the helping process during the phases. Most workers use a strengths identification form to help the worker and the client discover their strengths. For the assessment phase this part searches for more positive parts, abilities, and things for the client to build on. Positive attributes involved in a client would be what their talents are, hobbies, education, knowledge, interests, goals, support systems, and what they want from the future. After learning these interests from the client the worker can learn and teach the client on how to achieve these things better. Learning their interests can help the worker provide the right resources to help the client get help and move forward to a better life. Opening the resources to the client’s they can choose what will benefit them under the workers guidance.
