The Senate Armed Service Committee is empowered with legislative oversight of the nations military. The Senate Armed Service Committee was created after winning the Second World War due to the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1946. This act proposed streamlining Congresss cumbersome committee system by reducing the number of standing committees and carefully defining their jurisdictions. It upgraded the staff support for legislators which helped the congressional oversight of executive agencies become stronger.
A special interest group the Senate Armed Service Committee would have is Boeing. Boeing manufactures anything from an air planes to a tanks. The interaction the Senate Armed Services Committee has with Boeing is having Boeing make planes for the Navy and even the Pentagons P-8A Poseidon aircraft. The Senate Armed Service Committee found out the aircrafts were rigged with illegal Chinese electronic parts and started to investigate Boeing. They later found out that it wasnt Boeings fault and that the supplier they bought parts from was the company smuggling illegal parts from China. To this day the Senate Armed Service Committee uses aircrafts and many other vehicles and electronics made by Boeing.
A department or agency in the executive branch that the Senate Armed Service Committee would interact with is the defense department, also known as the Pentagon. The Pentagon helps purchase new war planes and other vehicles and electronics for the use of the Senate Armed Service Committee to distribute to the branches of armed forces. The Pentagon also works with the Senate Armed Service Committee to come up with defensive strategies for the branches of the armed forces. There are many different sections to the Pentagon that is dedicated to a certain branch of the armed forces and for the chiefs of staff. The Pentagon helps the Senate Armed Service Committee in training all the branches of the armed forces and teaching them defensive strategies, but of course there are army bases and other branches of the armed forces bases all around the world.
I think the only way we can ensure that we have the best future is if Congress makes a decision regarding what happens to the country after 9/11, whether they should continue to do the same thing the other way, and whether we should follow through and have the next president go after Osama bin Laden after three years.
And that’s not just something we need to do as a nation. When you look at what’s happened to our national security, we have become one of the countries that has made a mistake in our history in carrying out the most important and decisive foreign policy in our history. Let’s make sure that we are following through on America’s commitment to the principles that we believe in. Let’s keep America safe because this bill provides for those ideals. It’s not about giving people a better life. It’s about making sure that law and order in America will be preserved. It’s not about giving up on the fundamental values that made this country great. It’s about putting everybody and everything — including our military and our allies — on the same page, and giving everybody of all our values, along with the same protections to make sure that there is security when there is a tragedy and at some point some people go missing, and some people die, right?
The Senate Armed Service Committee has put together legislation that would change what we said that day, so our country is safe — and that’s important to keep the Pentagon safe. Let’s make sure that we have a clear distinction between the military and the civilian sector. Let’s put back the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the wars in Africa; they’re not the same thing. The Defense budget should be consistent over the same time period. Let’s keep these wars in the same place as ever, so our servicemen and women, their families, and their friends, not just the war to keep them alive, but just the cost of doing war, is going to be higher if those wars continue.
