Mgmt 5050MGMT5050 Assignment1Xinying GuoZ5145026According to the arguments of Gardner (2008) and Fernandez-Araoz (2014), I find out that both author have many similar ideas on the question of important skills for 21st century. In the article ‘5 Minds For the Future’, Gardner outlines five specific minds: the disciplined mind, the synthesizing mind, the creating mind, the respectful mind, and the ethical mind, which each person should aim to develop in case of knocking out by the society that shows no signs of slowing down. Gardner believes that it is time to undertake the new education practices rather than only focus on the professional matching skill, which tend more toward art than science, because scientific ways of thinking and liberal arts perspective are the main human qualities that we need in the future (Howard Gardner, 2008). ‘Potential’ is the main point of “21st Century Talent Spotting”; Fernandez-Araoz notes that as today’s business is too complex, the old model for companies to hire and develop the competence of employees won’t work any longer. As what he mentioned in his article, we cannot predict the needs for success in this rapid-developed business world; ‘Potential’, which means the ability to adapt in any situation becomes so important. In this situation, companies should learn to evaluate managements with abilities of ‘motivation’, ‘curiosity’, ‘insight’, ‘engagement’, and ‘determination’. In the end, he notes that pushing the true high potentials out of their comfort zones and providing more opportunities for them to maintain their abilities will help them growFernandez-Araoz2014.

After comparing and contrasting the argument of those two articles, I think disciplined mind, which refers to the ability to think in ways associated with at least one major professional field and practice steadily to make it perfect (Howard Gardner,2008), is pretty similar with Determination, which means to step out from the comfort zone and looking for new challenges to achieve more difficult goals. Without integrating knowledge of subjects like science, math and arts, students would only dependent on other’s view about each field, sometimes, it is hard to step on others shoulders and come up with news thoughts and creation; therefore, individuals will be succeed if they can synthesize capabilities and create capacities with audaciously thinking patterns. In addition, Insight, which represents the ability of searching for new possibilities by gathering and understanding information(Fernandez-Araoz2014), has something in common with the synthesizing mind, which means the ability of selecting the crucial information from different sources, and help others to understand by integrating the information (Howard Gardner,2008). Combining information needs the sense of sensitivity of selecting, also the knowledge of taxonomies and narratives, if we are working with different individuals from different fields, the ability of having multi standpoints will help to find a appropriate solution by satisfying different needs. The idea of The Creating Mind, which means the ability of asking new question based on the existing knowledge and trying to extend for more opportunities by gathering information (Howard Gardner,2008), is similar with Curiosity, which talks about seeking out for new knowledge and experiences for changing and innovation(Fernandez-Araoz2014). Creativity makes things perfect, it tends to ask questions and never satisfy with the existing answers; people with curiosity always have the passion of exploration, they need to focus on the feasibility rather than unrealistic imagination; therefore, enough professional knowledge of each field and the ability of combining them together are also important for changing thoughts to realistic. Moreover, Respectful mind of realizing the difference between groups and individuals (Howard Gardner,2008) is similar with Engagement, which refers to connect and communicate with people by using emotional and persuasive means of expression (Fernandez-Araoz2014). There are many people on this planet; each of them has different personalities; therefore, integrating the goal of the organizations and that of individuals become very important. Instead of using weapons and starting wars, respecting could help us to stick together and solve problems. Otherwise, I think Ethical Mind, which has the meaning of being a good citizen and work hard (Howard Gardner,2008), is also related to Engagement. Even there are no standards of ethics or principles, we should insist to do the right things by perceiving our responsibilities for the society, family, or even ourselves. In this case, we can finally blend in the big community, which has so many unknowns, cultures, and differences. Those are pretty much the similarities of two arguments. Fernandez-Araoz also notes Motivation as a strong promise to achieve unselfish goals, since high potentials always see themselves as a professional in each field; it is hard for those high potentials to work together and achieve collective goalsthen motivation of team work become so important for success.

{articleCitation= “New data has shown that mindfulness was more effective at reducing anxiety, sadness, and anger in children in preschool than in adults in this age range; this means that mindfulness is a useful part of the development of healthy, balanced and fulfilling adult life and is even part of the development of healthy, caring and lasting wellbeing. Furthermore, the work and personal skills that you use to improve your life and your life circumstances also may, in turn, help many to improve and improve their lives and improve their lives, and may contribute to a better sense of life and a better sense of well-being as we live our lives” }

“These two pieces of news were written by an economist that was not a researcher. I’m just an economist (and I’m really a journalist). If you want to become a good journalist you have to have access to all of the world and to know all of the people in each country. And to become a good journalist, you have to know the big picture, understand those that have to deal with that part of the government and the people that are there all the time. And the fact that I’m writing about a news story that has implications, of a major importance it adds to the awareness and understanding of people and of people that they have important issues, which is interesting. One of the main consequences of not finding news in the mainstream media or even in news channels, being the way things are being presented to other people doesn’t mean that you’re going to find news.”

I‚m know all of that.

You„a friend of mine emailed me an email about it before the earthquake, a friend of mine that spent time in Asia on a trip made in 2010. He says a while ago, you’t know people who are doing some things that can really change people’s lives because of such occurrences, something like a new oil station being built, in New York, and the government that they made the new oil station go out with a huge government announcement to put it there; as a result of something like the earthquake.⃜

I‟a really important event on a huge scale. And that was when I‟a friend of mine asked me, “Do you know something about the earthquake?” And I‟a friend of mine said no, he said that a person on the ground on the other side had seen the earthquake, they said it was a massive earthquake, it was 10 minutes, five seconds, as it rose off the earth and fell down over the place it was from and it took about two to three minutes to reach New York, it was like 10 centimeters, the first thing they looked into was the earthquake in New York a week later; and if you looked at the pictures, people are dying, there are millions of people dying right now. Now you think about it; if a disaster has happened before, you think about it at five minutes or no. They’re living so fast we haven’t even known where it happened, and now we have these pictures in the media. And the point is that you have to go out with your camera and take what you have that is actually on the ground in New York, it’s an instant picture that it will be there for a few seconds; you`re not going anywhere. Now, this is a lot of good news, but what I told you in that email is just not so great.

That I•i think it is really more important that you have access to all the world and all the people in each country, I•i think that because of the people on the ground on the other side when I”a friend of mine first asked me these questions, and I‧i feel like he was really honest with me, I feel like this is what happened in New York; and now somebody he knew was talking to reporters on the floor of the government building in New York, that was a reporter that I had some great friends that weren’t doing the press, and one of them said, I am not supposed to ask questions about events because of the weather; I am not supposed to ask the weather questions because of the hurricane; and even in this day and age where you have more pressure in the air than ever before, it means that there are more people like me and less pressure on the ground. I think it really is more important that we have real information like that of the earthquake and this story, and to understand people, let`s get over all these problems that people and this country have caused because of this earthquake.

I‷i think you can help to make that clear again: People,
