Anxiety is a feeling of tension associated with a sense of threat or danger when the source of the danger is unknown. People all over the world have some type or form of anxiety, with mild or severe. Anxiety can disrupt many individuals live their daily lives. Anxiety has several emotional disorders that it is associated with. One such order of many is Generalized Anxiety Disorder or formally known as (GAD).

Generalized Anxiety Disorder is one of many of anxiety disorders that affect many people around the world. A person suffering from GAD deals with natural anxiety due to overwhelming worrying that can occur on a daily basis. Finding the source that provokes anxiety are usually quite difficult. There can be many reasons associated such as daily things, health, family, money, bills, or work. Many people with GAD usually become overwhelmed by anxiety that getting through a normal day and activities is stressful and hard.

GAD is diagnosable; however, it is usually a difficult thing to do since there are so many anxiety disorders out there. Usually when a person spends at least six months worrying excessively about a multitude of everyday problems, this is a sign that one may be suffering from GAD. There are many symptoms such as, muscle tension, heavy sweating, diarrhea, clammy hands, and falling or staying asleep, and or nervousness.

The cause of GAD is relatively unknown. Evidence shows that GAD can be genetic and may run in families, while others believe GAD is caused from extreme situations and a high pressure stressful environment. Some people believe that there could be a specific gene related to disorders like GAD. Many find GAD can be caused by an overdose or overproduction of serotonin, a chemical in the brain that usually fights depression and anxiety, but too much serotonin can cause a reverse affect.

It is estimated that ten million adults of the world suffer from GAD. Women are more likely to have GAD than men. GAD can start at anytime on ones life, from childhood to early adulthood. For adults to be diagnosed with GAD, it usually happens in their early twenties. There are few ways about going with GAD. Common approaches are with psychological treatment, and with certain medication.

Many doctors believe that patients respond better with cognitive -behavioral treatment or therapy. This helps an individual learnt o see certain situations and problems in a different perspective and learns how to use certain techniques to reduce anxiety. Many believe drug treatment is not the best way to treat GAD, but can be used as an alternative. These medications usually include medicines such as, Valium, Atavan, Xanax, and other benzodiazepines.

In closing, I to suffer from GAD, I am currently prescribed Xanax to help me cope with my anxiety issues. I suffer on a daily basis from worrying about simple things such as, work, school, bills, money, and being on time, and trying to spend time
