Smarter Measures Test
Jose MendezEducation1300Britney Spears October 4, 2014 Writing assignment         During one class with our previous professor we were able to gain a better knowledge of who we are and the way we do things such as school work and personal attributes of ourselves. Before our professor left we took the Smarter Measures test or also known as the College Readiness Assessment whose purpose is to indicate the degree to which an individual student possesses the attributes, skills, and knowledge that contribute to success.         Smarter Measure includes seven major components which measure: individual attributes, life factors, learning styles, technical competency, and technical knowledge, on screen reading rate, typing speed and accuracy.  Together all these components make up the College Readiness Assessment and gives us a report that shows where we lack on and what we’re great at.         Two components that are or will become obstacles for my college success in the future are time management and procrastination. Time management is tied along with one of the major components this assessment tests which is life factors. Life factors are things in life that we have no control over such as time which is an issue for me now and more than likely will still be in the future. Time management is a barrier that interferes with my college success because I don’t put enough time into studying or doing anything that will better my college success. This doesn’t mean it’s an issue now but it will become an issue or a concern later throughout college. It is suggested for a college student who is talking classes to study about 2 to 3 hours a week for each class you take. Not using my time wisely and having too much on my plate to handle per say is bad because this interferes with my study time and as a result of not studying enough I may fail a class or get a low grade on the subject.

My second obstacle in the way for my college success is procrastination. Procrastination intertwines with the major concept of individual attributes. Procrastination is described as putting off until tomorrow what could be done today. This is a challenge for me sometimes because I tend to get assignments and not do them until last minute. I do this most of the time because I forget about an assignment and remember the day before its due or even the day of.  Procrastination isn’t a big concern for me yet because I tend not to do it most of the time. When I do happen to procrastinate on something I tend to get more stressed because it due the next day and I need to finish it in a hurry. I see having an upcoming deadline to motivate me to get it done as soon as possible and  but because I may be getting it done as soon as possible I may get some stuff wrong on the assignment. With help from my Smarter Measures assessment I was able to identify how to overcome or reduce the impact of each obstacle to ensure my college success. In the section of life factors and subsection of time management I was able to see what I was doing wrong; same goes for the subsection of procrastination in the major section of individual attributes. One way for me to overcome or reduce the time I waste and increase better time management would be to set a time aside for each day to study for at least an hour or an hour and a half. That way I can ensure I have enough time to study and be able to remember what was taught and ace the subject. A second way I can reduce the time I waste would be not to get on social media sites until I have studied. It is proven that a person’s time can be consumed because of social media site due to the fact it starts getting addicting just because you want to be “up to date” with the latest status update.
