Freedom is one of the biggest question marks in history. People throughout history have wondered what real freedom is. Every person may have a different definition of what freedom is and represents. Thousands of different definitions have attempted to solve this query; all of them sharing a same point – freedom is the ability to choose and express.

In ancient civilizations, freedom was thought as a gift from a divine being. Freedom is indeed a divine present. Philosophers have reflected on this priceless condition. Voltaire was once said: “I do not agree with what you think, but with my life I shall defend the right you have to express your thoughts”. However, not all people think as Voltaire once did.

Throughout humanitys history, people have been blinded with things such as greed, ambition, and envy. This has led many errant leaders to provoke bloody and brutal battles. Civilizations have fought for things such as independence, liberty, and dignity. These wars could have been avoided if people had learned to respect each other. They have shown the flaws and weaknesses of mankind.

Slavery has denigrated the human species for years. It has been around for a long time. People have scornfully treated their own kind and deprived them from freedom. Slavery is freedoms worst enemy and will always be. People tend to think of slavery as physical abuse. This is a frivolous way to see its real context. Slavery not only affects the physique, but it also affects the mind. How many people are still slaves of the brands? How many people are still slaves of money? People do not realize that slavery is not only physical abuse, and eventually begin to fall into a well that seems to have no exit. Sadly, they keep themselves trapped there due to their ignorance and superficiality.

The change is in us, and it will not be until we learn to overcome slavery that we will be able to call for freedom. Freedom is often waiting to be taken but people refuse to do so.

It is true that change carries the risk of failure; that is the main reason to fear freedom. However, it is also true that in life mistakes do not exist; there are only lessons to learn from.

Liberty is something that depends and dwells in every person. The existence of liberty denies the concept of fate. Fate does not exist. In fact, fate is merely fiction for we build our future with our own actions; actions that are taken with the use of freedom.

It is right to say that freedom is the cornerstone in everyones life. Liberty may lead the world to a whole new concept of civilization.
