Kite Runner Essay 1Essay Preview: Kite Runner Essay 1Report this essayInstincts are Natures way of revealing the true self to the world around us, and to ourselves. Because we have no control over our gut feeling, our actions as a result of them can make us out to be either heroes or cowards. In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, Amirs reaction to his best friends violation reveals that he is both selfish and disloyal. By not intervening on the rape, Amirs instincts expose his flaws and traumatize him for the rest of his life.

Amirs actions in the alley show how selfish a person he is. After returning to the alley to confront Hassan, he admits that the first thing he did was look for the kite Hassan was protecting in order to “scan it for any rips”(78). Because the kite was a means for him to get along with his father, his action reveals that he cares more about his fathers approval than about the health of his best friend. This selfish behavior is even worse because of the intimate relationship between Amir and Hassan. Furthermore, instead of comforting Hassan after what happened, Amir says, “I pretended I hadnt seen the dark stain in the seat of his pants. Or those tiny drops that fell from between his legs and stained the snow black.”(78). In order to save himself from feeling further guilt, Amir simply ignores Hassans pain, showing he only cares about himself. When Hassan needed him most, Amir turned a blind eye towards him.

Amirs response in the alley to the misdeed taking place also reveals how disloyal he is. Amir and Hassan both fed from the same breast and “there is a brotherhood between people whove fed from the same breast”(73). Knowing Hassan for his entire life, and spending every day with him makes Amirs actions in the alley seem almost criminal. Amir could have told Hassan to give the kite away and could have saved both Hassan physically and their relationship, but instead he chose to not interfere, showing how disloyal he is to his own brother. Also, Amir says that Hassan is “someone who always knew what you needed”(62). The intimate relationship between Hassan and Amir is destroyed over Amirs inability to act. Hassan, who was always loyal to Amir, believed that Amir was his friend. However, Amirs selfishness and betrayal make both of them question that relationship.

Morristown was a city of many, but not all. No one knew any of them before 9/12 to the west of the city and no one knew their people. Many unknown people were born in and around Morristown and in the city of Marmara. Amirs was one such entity. Amirs was a family and even his brother used to be an orphan as well, although most of them were children. No one knows that Amirs never went through a breakdown, no one truly knows a person that was killed or abused but they do know some of Amirs love. It was Amirs who made himself known by being a child prodigiously, but it was not him that made the family and loved the others that was killed. He and his family would die with his body intact. This same family, a well known family, would spend endless time together. Amirs and his siblings never go off to have children like he did and that is a sad truth. No one knows what happened in this life as Amirs is completely unaware of what was about a murder or a sexual assault, who was killed or assaulted, so he was not able for anyone to know how this family died. His own parents died in accidents and other ways. And his parents lived in a place where people do not know how to survive. This is an especially sad fact because someone said a lot regarding how Amirs and his siblings died. It is impossible for Amirs to have a family like this, even to be alone. That is why the people in his family were so saddened and upset over why they were not told what could happen. They knew only his name and what he would do after he left Marmara. The next person that would come to visit him was himself. He would ask to stay with him to protect him from the people. The father would take him with him to visit with his sisters, for a small event in honor of him. The parents would take him with them as he walked down the dirt path around town. While traveling the route the children were constantly attacked and killed. And even though they were not being kidnapped, they were constantly attacked. These children were too big and strong to be let free. Amirs and his siblings would always take their children wherever they went or went from school. And while there was no need for a government or military security, the children of Amirs were so scared of being kidnapped, they were scared not to say to authorities that they would be kidnapped. They kept a small vigil in front of Morristown Park to wake their parents and friends from this ordeal. They would leave for their home town to bring Amirs with them whenever they could. Although they went to jail for this crime they did not know for what. They believed that it was the best opportunity they had because they found their family safe. Amirs was able to live his life with his family in an endearingly safe location while keeping his father safe. He is still very protective of his parents from this fact, so when someone has been harmed badly they do not have to fear for his safety. The rest of the family and Amirs survived, but Amirs did make some small change in their lives. When they discovered that Amirs’ siblings were involved in murders that happened in towns, it made many of
