The Language of Violence
“The Language of Violence” was a song written by an American industrial hip-hop band, active during the early 1990s named Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy and it was from the album “Hypocrisy Is the Greatest Luxury” which was released in 1992. Hypocrisy Is the Greatest Luxury found some critical acclaim, although the album leaned away from the then-rising G-Funk that came to be the dominant sub-genre within west coast hip hop. The album reviews was not the best but from what I’ve read in the reviews was that the people was not a big fan of the album particularly but they did like some of the beats in the songs included in the album and how behind every song was what was an sense to what was actually going on in the world.
My interpretation from reading the lyrics was that the song was based upon a boy starting in a new school but getting bullied by the kids in that school based upon his sexuality. I also got from reading the lyrics that the kids who bullied him had other personal problems at home bought it with them to school and took it out on this boy who was innocent. It was one part in the lyrics that stuck out to me and that was when the song stated” But dehumanizing the victim makes things simpler, Its like breathing with a respirator” which gave me a clear understanding of the kids bullying this innocent human being had insecurities of their own so when they bullied this boy it made them feel better about themselves. I find that it is meaning behind this song because in this world you find a lot of people talking down about one another just to make it easier on themselves so that they won’t have to face their own insecurities just like those kids who bullied the innocent boy at school.
