Pharmacists vs. The Pill 2
Define the business research and its purpose
The purpose of this article is to understand why Pharmacists are refusing women the right to fill their prescriptions of birth control pills. Picture a time when you went to the pharmacists window to fill your prescription that you just received from your doctor and he takes a glance at the prescription to suddenly inform you that he will not refill it. A growing number of pharmacists have been refusing to dispense birth-control pills and emergency contraception (ECP) because it goes against their personal beliefs and the laws allows it. It has been stated that Pharmacists in some states such as: Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi and South Dakota can legally deny prescriptions on moral or religious grounds. Some may feel that the denials are another way of controlling womens reproductive health choices. This Pharmacists known as Karen Brauer felt very strongly towards filling prescriptions of the (ECP) because she believed that this was not a true contraceptive and it was just another way to aborted a living human being.

. Explain the business problem(s) under investigation
A law firm known as The American Center for law and Justice (ACLJ) filed a lawsuit against K-Mart for firing a Pharmacists for not signing a document that stated she would fill prescriptions for the morning after pill or (ECP) regardless of her personal beliefs. K-Mart made a decision based on people human rights. As it may state when self-appointed moralists are intermediaries between you

and your health-care provider particularly as the country drifts toward a rightwing agenda it really limits the options for all women. ACLJ stand firm in believing that no one should have to choose between their moral beliefs and their job. This puts them in a position to make an ethical decision that could insult their integrity and values. Both federal and state law makes it illegal to fire a person because of their religion. K-Mart violated those laws when they fired our client because she refused to abandon her religious beliefs (Business Wire, 1999).

Identify the parties involved in conducting the research
The main focus of this article is to understand why a Pharmacists had to choose between what she believed in and her job. The partys involved include the American Center for Law and Justice, the Pharmacists and K-Mart. As an organization that is expanding globally you must ask yourself did they make the right choose in this particular situation? In some states religious beliefs over power the rights for women. Manion said: “Ohio law makes it illegal for an employer to fire somebody whose conscience wont let them participate in abortion procedures. Karen Brauers situation falls squarely within the language of the law. What K-Mart did was against the law. We intend to make them answer for their illegal actions by compensating Karen Brauer for the damages she has suffered”
