On August 6, 1945 the nuclear weapon Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima by the Enola Gay, a U.S. Air Force B-29 bomber which was altered specifically to hold the bomb, killing 80,000 civilians and heavily damaging the city. Hiroshima was an important army depot and port of embarkation in the middle of an urban industrial area. It is a good radar target and it is such a size that a large part of the city could be extensively damaged. There are adjacent hills which are likely to produce a focusing

effect which would considerably increase the blast damage. Due to rivers it is not a good incendiary target. (Doc JKL) It was the first ever to be used in military action. The American atomic bombing of Hiroshima is commonly believed to be the major factor leading to the surrender of the Japanese government as many believed that its was also for a diplomatic reason. The bombing in Hiroshima can be interpret to intimidate the Soviet Union, to become apart of the allies in the war against Japan (Doc D). Many argue that bombing in Hiroshima was very invalid, that the U.S gained nothing but a million causalities. (Doc A).It also can be prove the bombing had nothing to do with the Soviet Union. After the bomb, Little Boy no action took place dealing with the disposition of Soviets on the war in Japan. The allies didnt need the Soviet Union to win this war in Japan (Doc E). Obviously the war in Japan was directed to Japan and only Japan. Because it took another bomb, Fat boy that was dropped on Nagaski for Japan to surrender. (Doc B)

The role of the bombings in Japans surrender, as well as the effects and justification of them have been subject to much debate. In the U.S., the prevailing view is that the bombings ended the war sooner than would otherwise have been the case, and saved many lives that would have been lost on both sides if the planned invasion of Japan had taken place. In Japan, the general public tends to think that the bombings were needless as the preparation for the surrender was in progress.
