But what about those who depend on alarm to wake up everyday and feel annoyed when it comes to the sound of the alarm clock everyday in the morning? Some of them often snooze the alarm and sleep back until they are late for work, class or even important meeting. Nowadays alarm clock or alarm phone applications are designed with sudden shrill sound that jolts people from sleep and reminds people that it is time to get out of the bed. Consequently, people will end up hating that noise. It is easier to wake up people out of sleeping state gently that mimic mother nature to cradle us out of our dreams. It is like during our teenage year where our moms used to wake us up by slowly touch our hand and whisper our name with an increasing tone every morning. This is to ensure that we are not suddenly wake up with high heart beat. Bonnet and Arand (1995) found that chronic sleep deprivation is common in the developed world with 29% of all young adults are reported to have only 6.5 hours of sleep each night. Indeed, there is a need for these types of people to wake up refreshed due to minimum number of sleep they have everyday. Designing the right technologies, alarm clock to promote healthy sleep behaviors and waking up refreshed is a worthwhile goal. The modernization nowadays is in need for a well effective alarm clock that will wake up people fresh in the morning everyday. Therefore, the best alarm clock for waking up feeling refreshed is those with an eye to our biological clocks and natural evolution.

Various Stages of Sleep CycleChoe et al. (2011) stated that sleep cycle consists of several phases throughout the night including two broad types that are Rapid Eye Movement(REM) sleep where most people dream and Non Rapid Eye Movement(NREM) sleep. The REM sleep is the last stage in sleep cycle which is when a person is dreaming. As for NREM sleep phase, it is further developed into N1, N2 and N3 where this N3 is also referred to the deep sleep phase, which is the main key for people waking up feeling refreshed and restored(Iber, 2007). As per Ackerman (2012), there are 5 stages of sleep cycle with each sleep cycle duration of 90 minutes each; Stages 1 and 2 are considered “light” sleep, while stages 3 and 4 are “deep” sleep. Conjunctionally, the 5th stage is REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is dreaming. “The deep sleep is a phase of sleep during which the arousal threshold to external stimuli is maximal”(Rechtschaffen, 1966).
