Morals and Ethics
Mine is a summary on the age-old debate about abortion. The question over whether abortion is right or wrong and whether it should legal or outlawed has been asked for many, many years. From the standpoint of women who have abortions the argument is usually that it is her body and she should be allowed to do with it what she will. From the standpoint of the fetus it is most often that the unborn fetus is a person and ending that life is essentially murder. It all boils down to what is ethical in our society and that fortunately or unfortunately is determined by the individual and not the whole.

My view on the issue in general is that abortion is immoral, however I wouldnt go so far as to say it should be illegal. I dont believe in it and dont think that women who get pregnant because they chose not to have protected sex or they thought that being pregnant would help them to keep a man should be allowed to have abortions willy-nilly. But, I do realize that there are situation where an abortion may be called for, such as, a pregnancy as a result of rape or incest, if a pregnancy is a mortal threat to the mother, or if the fetus is determined to have defects that will significantly decrease the quality of life of the child. Those would be circumstances where I would find it acceptable to end a pregnancy by abortion.

To me, this topic truly brings out the question of ethics and morals in society. I wonder how women can have a life growing inside of them and because they decided that they dont want to be tied down with a baby after theyve gotten pregnant or they get pregnant while they are with someone and the relationship doesnt last, they just end it. I mean the physical ramifications alone should be enough to make them think twice, not to mention the emotional scars they would have to carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Overall I am against abortion and would side with those who would like to see it outlawed, but as there are always exceptions to the rule I do realize that there can be extenuation circumstances in which an abortion may be necessary. As with most debates each side believes that they are right, period, end of discussion. I think if people would learn to bend a little more ethical and moral debates such as these would not cause as much turmoil in the world. Why not make abortions illegal unless there are circumstances which make them necessary and bump up the birth control education, I think in time that could possibly make a difference.
