Q. Identify and discuss three significant historical events in the developments of the United States.
A. The first historical event that developed the United States in my opinion is the 14th Amendment, it states that the states cannot deny any person the prospect of “life, liberty, and property” without due process of the law. Nor deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protections of the law. This especially was good for African Americans and women who were not allowed to vote, have fair trials, or be able to own property and things of that nature. A next thing that shaped the United States was the 26th Amendment which grants eighteen year olds and older to vote which is a big step for teens like me because it gives us a voice, and an opinion that before 1971 kids my age did not have. During my time of being eighteen we had our first election for the first black President and being able to be a part of that is not only historical for African Americans but for the United States as well. The next thing to shape the United States is the 13th Amendment which abolishes slavery. This was big because before 1865 being African American usually meant you were owned by A white person, working, cooking, or doing something for them, and the only real payment these African Americans would get back was food and shelter that was shared with their other peers. The days were long and the discrimination and punishments for not following the rules were harsh but since then we have come a long way, African Americans can now vote, own their own property, run companys, live were they want by who they want, and although discrimination is not completely gone its amazing to see whites and blacks play, work, live, and get along. We even have a black President that no one thought we could have and if we could do that we can do much more
