Gender-based violence, only recently emerging as omnipresent worldwide issue, contributes ominously to preventable morbidity and mortality for women across various cultures. (Ruth L. Fischbach, 1997) “Young women under 25 are more at risk from experiencing intimate partner violence” according to Labasa Fiji Women Rights Movement project officer, Sera Bogitini. This essay will elaborate more on the above mentioned statement, it will also shed light on the patriarchal education, sexism, and domestic violence against women and the relationship between the three factors. To begin with patriarchy means male dominance or male control over women. Traditionally females have been subjected to separation due to the faith in the common disparity of the genders. Women were required to be carers or nurturers in the residential circle on account of their kid bearing and mothering parts while men were connected with people in general world. Women were also seen as passive and obedient in comparison to the stereotype of men as active and dominant. Feminist theory proposes that husbands who adhere to an ideology of familial patriarchy are more probable to beat their wives than husbands who do not follow to such a belief. (Smith, 1990)Moving on Sexism is both discrimination founded on gender and the attitudes, stereotypes, and the cultural components that indorse this sort of behaviour. Given the historical and continued imbalance of power, where men as a class are privileged over women as a class an important, but often overlooked, part of the term is that sexism is prejudice plus supremacy. Feminists query women’s prejudicial or imbalanced treatment in society by males and work towards emancipating them and giving women rights and recognition in a society. One such feminist Elizabeth Cady Stanton strongly alleged that women ought to be taken out of the private world and pushed into the public world .This would allow them in advancement and provide them more opportunities for securing the same political, social and economic rights and rewards as men. Stanton insisted there was a higher virtue for women to develop: ‘self-development’.

Also, domestic violence at home against women is a way that females are victimized and is turning into an expanding issue in numerous Pacific Island social orders as a result of the patriarchal conviction that females should be placed in their places. At last the demonstration of brutality against women is the perspective that women are seen as optional to men. Our social convictions additionally underline these methods for considering. In the event that individuals took after virtue of ethics for example, stressing on the significance of gaining a decent character through self-development and training, there would be less instances of aggressive behaviour at home against women. To add on Patriarchal education, sexism, and domestic violence against women are all related to one another in one way or the other. They all share one common attribute that is men are portrayed as above women in various aspects of life. Men who follow patriarchy and act as a sexist stereotyping women often end up denying women equal opportunities in life and in regards to the topic of this essay they might end up in afflicting violence on their female partnerFurthermore, violations of women rights are very much evident in today’s society.
