Holocaust not holocaust
A sixth grade student writes, “The Holocaust is not just a word used to describe something anymore. It is spelled with a capital H and is known to everyone as a great tragedy.” (citation) There are countless acts of hatred throughout the world, on all levels of society, everyday. Many people use hate crimes and discrimination towards others as a form of punishment. People ask why, and the main answer is because of a lack of understanding, a lack of knowledge, knowledge of what has happened in the past. If young adults are taught about the Holocaust in-depth, they can make a difference. The difference they can make can affect the world. Yet it all comes back to the basic knowledge, the knowledge of past horrific events such as the Holocaust.

” At the first second, after I had heard the question, I remained without an answer…. I was there in Poland and saw! …. Children must learn in order to know what the human mind can invent such a terrible thing as the Final Solution,” states Irit Raz, a high school student in Israel. Young students learn about the Holocaust in order to understand the past, prejudice and the fear of people due to lack of knowledge. However, learning about these gruesome facts leaves fear with these innocent, mentally incapable minds. Children in middle school are not mentally capable of handling details as graphic as in the book “Night”, by Elie Wiesel. Wiesel states, “All eyes were on the child. No one should have the right to corrupt innocent children.

The graphic nature of the holocaust is an excruciating mental devastation. Children seeing these horrible images are not emotionally prepared to handle them. These atrocious images are glued to the innocent incapable minds of young ones. Parents do everything heavenly possible to keep their precious joys out of harms way. Trying to do what is best, they send their kids to school hoping they are applying themselves. In return, the school systems are teaching middle school students this curriculum. It is corrupting their minds. Until their minds have matured, they will not fully understand the concept that is being presented to them. Students could even misinterpret the lectures and it end up causing more horrific concepts instead of presenting good. The language dealing with the Holocaust is not for the use of young students. Having such young minds and lack of understanding, is an unfortunate side effect of trying to understand such in depth material.

Applying this material to high school students only allows their individuality to expand with knowledge to lead them on the right path in society. Young adults brace themselves for their entrance into society from what they have learned in their latest expeditions. If racism, discrimination, and hatred are drilled into the heads of these wondering
