Many countries require young men to serve their country by enrolling into the military. Although it is great if people want to enroll into the military or other positions similar, it should not be a requirement in the United States because of the economy, students having other plans, and the fact that this law would take away a concept upon which this country was founded, freedom.

If this was to become a requirement, the government would have to pay the soldiers and other civil workers. For the past several years the economy has been getting worse and jobs are becoming more limited. With that being said, how does the government expect to find or produce these positions either as soldiers or civil workers? And more importantly, where are they going to get the money to pay them? When my father was laid off a few years ago, he needed a job like this while he was looking for a better one. These positions should be reserved for those who want them, as my father did. Students should not be required to fill them, especially if they have other plans.

After high school teenagers usually go to college, or join the army. Others dont know what their going to do! As for me, Im Mormon so I will be going on a mission when Im 19. Although this is not a requirement of my religion, it is highly encouraged. After my mission I will be going to college to pursue a career I havent chosen yet. If I was to be required to serve in the military, I would be 23 before I could start college! This requirement may help people like me who havent chosen a career yet, but it will also just slow down those who already have a game plan. Our future should be our choice, not the governments.
