In his book The Great Theft, Khaled Abou El Fadl takes on some issues such as Islam and human rights, the status of women, and jihad. He also explains that Islam is currently passing through the same transformative as the Europe faced during the reformation. Also the difference practice of modern Muslims and the corrupting influences of the extremists. After 9/11 the world views of Muslim have dramatically change. It had affected the Muslim world and attitudes towards the western countries because of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The world views of the Muslim have change and are grown to change. El Fadl talks about the use of the religion to carry out there own attack. The three important things, I believe he talks about in his book are, Islam and human rights, the status of women, and jihad.

Womens have a big role as much as mans do in Islam. The extremis have treated womens as second class, who dont have the same right as man. Womens have been forced to act as suicide bombers after being accused of adultery or embarrassing their families, and were told that they were acting out as a Muslim faith when they kill mass people with suicide bombs. They have been told to believe that they are doing good deeds. They will use Islam as a reason for telling women how to behave and for punishing them. In face the Quran stated that “Verily for all men and women who have surrendered themselves unto God, and all believing men and believing women, and all truly devout men and truly devout women, and all men and women who are true to their word, and all men and women who are patient in adversity, and all men and women who humble themselves before God, and all men and women who give in charity, and all self-denying men and self-denying women, and all men and women who are mindful of their chastity, and all men and women who remember God unceasingly: for all of them has God readied forgiveness of sins and a mighty reward.” (33:35).As we could see in Islam man and women have the same quality.

Many of us have heard by now the word jihad, but how many of us know the meaning of it. Most of the western countries believe its a “holy war”. They have heard it and believe there is a Holy War, thats because the Islamic extremist would use it to being more members, to there group and financial support for there organization. But what does jihad really means? Jihad is the struggle to please God. Its the duty of all Muslims by heart, by the tongue, by the hand, and by the sword.
