There were many differences between the founding of the southern colonies and the northern colonies. One of the major differences is that most of the southern colonies were developed by farmers who built plantations to make tobacco and other cash crops, the northern states were developed for religious purposes. Most of the colonist that moved to the northern colonies were groups of puritan separatists. The puritans first landed at Plymouth Massachusetts in 1620, they came to America so they could have religious freedom because of the kings demand that they country follow his religious beliefs. The southern colonies began with Jamestown originating in 1607. Jamestown originally consisted of 144 men. Jamestown was looking down until John Rolfe discovered tobacco and it became a cash crop which then created many job opportunities for colonists and many plantations to be built. Another difference between southern and northern colonies was the way they treated the Native Americans. Northern colonies, for example the colonies in Maryland, were friendly to the Native Americans. Having a good relationship with the Native Americans had very good rewards, as with the northern colonies, the Native Americans helped the colonist by giving them food, shelter, and showing them how to grow different crops, for survival. The southern colonies were mean to the Native Americans. They raided the Native American colonies, killing and capturing the Indians. After capturing the Indians the colonist tried to make the Indians there slaves, but unsuccessful because of the Indian knowledge of the land.

Events in England had small effect on the colonies and colonists. There was little contact between England and America while the development of the colonies was going on. It went years without England contact or control until Charles II decided that wanted to start controlling what was going on in the colonies, by creating the Navigation Acts.

Things would have gone better if all of the colonist combined together and created an organized system of government, consisting of leader and his cabinet, military, and working class. Appropriate support would have been required from England until
