Joseph GordonArt AppreciationFeb. 28, 2017Compare a painting and a sculpture         Dorothy Williams, “The Battle is Mine” painting, includes a large variety of colors. This painting is a mixed media medium, and it seems a bit like a abstract painting. The focal point of the painting is the face that appears in the middle of the painting. The curvy lines throughout the painting flow together from all direction to form a face in the center of the piece. The color are very vibrantant, which in combination with the lines, forces the viewers eyes to follow the flow them to the center of the painting         This is a very light painting and the different colors provide the necessary balance needed to give off a happy but blunt feeling about the piece. The texture of the painting is smooth throughout the painting was very smooth throughout the painting. This painting seems to put a lot of emphasis on the face that was being created from each element. There wasn’t a lot of geometric shapes being used throughout the painting. This painting consisted of more man-made shapes. The painting was more of a collective piece meaning there wasn’t a lot of space throughout the painting. Everything seemed to be connected.         The sculpture “Tigress set”,  by Tyra Greene is a ceramic piece that doesn’t contain a lot of colors like the painting but is very shiny and doesn’t really have a focal point. The texture of the piece is a bit rough and has sharp edges. This sculpture has a old feeling to it which gives the viewer the accent feeling of forging country.
