Boys and Schools Go Separate Ways Summary
Tom Mortensons article Boys and Schools Go Separate Ways article insist that young boys are not getting the proper learning in primary schools to insure they further there education. His article looks at the percentage of men who do not continue on to college or even dont graduate from high schools; he believes these schools arent grasping males with their current teaching methods. These styles of learning Mortenson suggest consist of a hands on approach including fishing and observation out of classrooms designed to trigger determination is young boys. According to the article boys have more learning disabilities compared to girls as well as schools are unsure of how to accommodate adolescent boys properly. I strongly agree with Mortensons argument that something has to been done as soon as possible to get boys more interested in learning. If schools find others ways to reach out to boys to get them more involved in the learning process and use a curriculum that better pertains to young boys the percentage of male high school graduates & males in higher education will increase. Although I dont completely agree with his Moretnsons exact solution, I believe a more exciting and practical way can be applied. Using Jean Piagets cognitive development theory of accommodation boys who need a different way of learning in order to find school more enjoyable may find that through an altered experience and real interactions outside or inside the classroom.
