the role women played in foraging and horticultural based on their societies? How is a women status is impacted by her participation in food procurement? how is a women status in these societies compare to that of women in American society today.

The women are the primary gathers and are responsible for contributing nearly 80 percent of the San diet. Women can collect enough food in one day to feed their families for a week. They use digging sticks to dig up root products and make bags and baskets to hold and carry the food. Womens knowledge about reliable locations to find food is respected and seriously considered. In horitculural societies they had mor knowledge about plants so they played the central role in cultivation activities. They were involved in planting weeding and harvesting activites. Women contributed to the maze which allowed the warriors and traders go to war or on trading expeditions and if they were against any raiding activity they withheld maize from the warriors and they could not go. A women role as cultivators meant they are owners of the land and the produce grown. Women had the ability to influence their community on decision making. Hunts were barely successful and meat was not a reliable source for the community. women provided food and they were viewed equally as men. Another reason that women were equal was because foraging societies viewed everyone as equals within their society. Today in our society a women provides just as much as a men . They do just as much manuel labor and still take care of their household.
