Africans trust and revere old men. But if there is anything they have learnt from their recent history, is that not all old men can be trusted. Seen in this photo in 1964 is Africa’s founding father Jomo at 75 and a young 40 year old Lee. If Africans had been given an option to choose between those two, I can confidently say that they would have opted for the old man.  There would be an assortment of every kind of explanation, from old age comes with wisdom, moderation and insight, to that a 40 year old cannot be trusted with running a nation. The young unknown Lee is the today’s famous Lee Kuan Yew, who would set Singapore on a path towards economic prosperity for his citizens and a system of government that would allow equal distribution of wealth for all. The old Jomo on the other hand would lead his country down the road of poverty and inequality, where the country’s resources would end up as private property for a few oligarchs while the majority would swim and drink poverty.ION, Two momentous things happened last week in the globe; the jailing of Park Guen-hye, the immediate former president of South Korea and the sentencing of Lula da Silva a former president of Brazil. Those two historic ruling are setting a precedent that head of states can be charged and convicted of crimes that they commit when in office. Park who is the daughter of South Korea’s longest serving president was given a 24 years sentence while Lula was given a 12 year sentence.
