All projects depend on communication between those involved, and communication is critical to completing the project as required to meet deadlines and stay on budget. “Much of project management is about talking and listening to the project team” (Gido & Clements, 2012).

As there are set rules for the project, so there should be rules about the communications regarding the project. This plan should contain both verbal and written forms of communication and the means of delivery. Verbal communications can be meetings, phone conversations, video conferencing, or impromptu conversations (hallway, cubicle or lunch conversations). Written communications are typed, emails, logs, reports and minutes based on the conversations or verbal communications. This can also include updates of completed work, costs, resources, and potential problems or issues.

The communication flow is very important and is required for all the members to not only to be informed but also be empowered for them to be able to share information also concerning the project. Communication must not just be a downward flow, there should be an equal amount of upward and horizontal communication. This is the job for the project manager to create the environment whereas all communication is open and moves freely without bias as to the communicators position within the team.

All communication helps move the project forward, the lack of communication can slow the progress and create problems. All involved have expectations; these expectations of the shareholders, team members, customers and vendors are manage with excellent communications.
